Quite right... was watching footage from the Lovesexy Live DVD the other night, and his Sign of the Times gig.

An indelible part of my youth.

Dirty Mind, Controversy (my favourite Prince LP) and 1999 are the best things he ever did imo

eta: all funk/disco masterpieces of course

During the days when Kim Basinger was in most school boys' wk bank, Prince was spending hours sat in front of her having 'mind sex'.

This might explain why they didn't last as a couple.

And they released an edited version of the "Scandalous" track with her doing all sexy vocals.

The guy is a total genius though - on a level so beyond Jackson its scary. Okay, Prince may be a little weird in the head, but thats the way with most creative sorts.

Personal favourite track would be Bambi off his Prince album.

No love for the Black Album then?

I remember the struggle to get a copy of that on vinyl for under £50 when it didn't come out... IYSWIM

Genius! Still amazing when I saw him at the O2 two years ago. Massive back catalogue and he (and his fantastic band) just kept going and going. As he kept saying through the set, "Too many hits, too little time!"
Love to see him do another residency at the O2.

I never really "got" the Black album, but eventually managed to source it on CD. Not that it was bad, but it never matched the hype.

He always seems to have albums with a good few fillers, and some extremely good standout tracks - Anna Stesia on Lovesexy, Illusion on Musicology, Kiss on Parade, Sign O The Times .... at his worst he's dire, but at his best he's just incredible.

I've listened to him since Diamonds And Pearls.

Not sure which is my favourite song, probably You Got The Look.

I love it when you listen to a song on the radio, sung by any performer and you instantly know Prince produced it. His style is un-mistakable and very easy to spot!

Another massive fan of his earlier stuff , probably up to diamond and pearls.

Loved that every album was such a leap in style from the previous ones.

Truly a talent capable of making so many different styles of music.

So many good tracks, but I have Erotic City, Scarlet Pussy and Head burned onto the CD in the car.

Now then, quick quiz.

Other than "The Most Beautiful...", how many number ones has Prince written?

I can think of 4 or 5.

Hmmm. I don't think our OP here did with my reference to the Sinead O'Connor number he wrote.
