What are your favourite ambient / lo-fi albums?

Looking for some recommendations for down-tempo/ambient/dubby/ethereal stuff. It's hard to explain really but something with a similar sound to the following,

Aphex Twin - SAW 1 & 2
Autechre - Tri Repetae
The Orb - UF.Orb
Global Communications - 76:14
Future Sound of London - Lifeforms
Brian Eno - Music for Airports
Air - anything really
Massive Attack - Mezzanine
Talk Talk - Spirit of Eden

Any other electronica fans in the building?

Isn't electronica what Americans call anything from funky house to jungle?

PS good groups there but I don't know album names; I only know/recognise the music if I hear it. silly

Try Thievery Corporation, pretty good.

Just has OTT recommended to me as well, but be sure you don't get mixed up with the 90's boy band of the same name!

Anything by Boards Of Canada, and Jean-Michelle Jarre's Waiting For Cousteau.

Incidentally, Mary Anne Hobbs experimental Radio 1 show is cracking for this sort of music.

Anyone happen to know of any similar shows/podcasts to stream on the web?

not an album, and might be hard to track down [was a ltd 7"] but try looking for the 'maida vale version' of hot chip's 'boy from school'. very laid back, miles better than the single version imo.

For dubby ambient electronica try this. Some of the most interesting sound design for a long while imho.

Perhaps borderline ambient but the new(ish) Deadmau5 album - "Random Album Title" is very good.

Isn't Blue States supposed to be of this ilk?

Just spent a happy half hour surfing the iTunes store on the back of this thread, thanks smile

Not sure if these fit, but can I offer a couple?

Pluxus - Solid State
Kraftwerk - Tour de France Soundtracks (Aero Dynamik/Titanium)

It might be old-hat, but also how about: The Art of Noise - Daft? "(Three fingers of) Love" is brilliant.

Cheers for the suggestions guys, and keep 'em coming! Will youtube them later.

Another one I've recently discovered, though don't have a physical copy yet - Susumu Yokota - Sakura, lush stuff.

Anyone got a pre-order in for the Warp20 box set? Looks fantastic although I will admit I am a sucker for these sort of things.

Klaus Schulze - Kontinuum
KLF - Chill Out
Also, look for some stuff from a guy called OrbscuredDJ

For dub, anything by Scientist ticks the box for me.

I have to say, the Global Communication 76:14 album is an epic album.

Some great selections.

I would also recommend Sasha & Digweed's first Northern Exposure album, an all time classic.

Ulrich Schnauss is also good.

My absolute fave is Underworld - Deep Arch, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0LEbcisnXQon the Pearl's Girl 2CD set. If I want to chill I listen to that one.

Underworld - Oich Oich - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4YpA2nS9Zs

Primal Scream - Higher Than The Sun (remix) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPYUM27QWMw
Well I think it's ambient.
