... yes, after months of procrastinating (makes you go blind you know) I have decided to take the plunge and have a serious cull of my guitar collection. It's getting really silly now, there's 14 of the damn things. Hang on a minute ... no just checked again, there's actually 16, this is sillier than I thought.

Sat down last weekend, wrote loads of descriptions, sorted out loads of photos, put a few on eBay. One's gone already, someone bit my head off and did a Buy It Now on the Burns Marvin so that's gone for the full price. A pleasant surprise; only problem is he lives sur le continent - it was supposed to be Local Pickup Only - so I now have to carefully pack it and he's arranging a carrier to collect it. My local music shop has donated a nice big box to put it in - he usually has to throw them away so I'm doing him a favour really.

Also up there are an Epiphone Casino - not reached the reserve yet but 35 people watching so I am optomistic, also a Ricky 12-string ('64 reissue just like the one George played in A Hard Days Night). Yet to attract a bid but plenty of watchers.

Possibly a Les Paul and a Hank Marvin Strat to follow. Bit of a wrench to sell these really, but needs must.

But help me out guys - how do I resist the temptation to use the proceeds of these sales to just buy more guitars?

And does anyone here have any interesting stories about buying/selling guitars via eBay? (I've bought 3 and enough parts to build several, and sold 7 and a mountain of parts.)

This is a tricky one. When my girlfriend moved in I had 20 odd guitars and a room full of gear. One day after we were married during the usual discussion of 'I need guitars like you need shoes' she suggested I sell the ones I never play and spend the cash on a few high end guitars. I ended up selling all the guitars (wish I hadn't sold all my USA Gunslingers...sob) and bought some keepers:

Les Paul Standard
PRS Custom 24 with BKPs
John Suhr Reb Beach Custom
Washburn Custom Shop paduak N4
ESP Relic Strat (for playing in front of the telly)

I've since let the Suhr and the Les Paul go as I couldn't resist the profits gained from the weak pound.

I now have 3 that cover all the bases I need. I'll look around for a nice USA Gunslinger as they were my favourite guitars in the 80's. Then I'm done.

Although a nice accoustic would be nice...as would another Les Paul and a Steinberger....oh no!
