The Gaslight Anthem are a fantastic band, they take a lot of influence from Springsteen but with a punk side too.

Anyone else notice that he was "channelling" Joe Strummer? I wasn't familiar with the opening song (a Strummer cover, I have since found out) but it struck me that he looked and moved very much like him?

Now I need to find someone who recorded the entire set and is making it available as a bootleg tape / torrent! (remember bootleg live tapes?)

Bootleg tapes. thumbup

I've got some old Oasis bootlegs in a box at my Mum's.

The Boss was majestic, as was Stevie Van Zant in fairness. biggrin

Just watching the BBC coverage off the Sky+ for the third time and was at Hyde Park yesterday to see him. The boss is an absolute legend, a real showman doing what he loves and it shows.

I can't believe that a 59 year old can do a 2h40m set one night then less than 24 hours later do another 3h15m, especially considering the amount of energy he puts in the performances.

By all accounts the Glasto gig was appalling live, no atmosphere and a real let down for the enormous Springsteen fan we were camped with.

I just don't think he gets Glasto really, its a crowd that wants and rewards the classics from a classic artist. Springsteen isnt really going to make any new fans at a festival and forcing new stuff that isnt anywhere near as good as the oldies on a somewhat tricky crowd just makes him look desperate.

The Quo and Tom Jones seemed to get the crowd far better and consequently turned out far better shows than Springsteen.

Yeah it really looked like the 100,000+ people were having a right stty old time.

Right. Because he has no experience of huge outdoor gigs, does he?

Classics [IMO] played:
Badlands
Johnny 99
Because The Night
No Surrender
The River
Born To Run
Thunder Road
Glory Days
Dancing In The Dark

I bet he made quite a few new fans, and I don't agree that his recent new material isn't as good as the old stuff. 'Magic' - at least in terms of the songs - was as good as any of his 70s-80s albums IMO.

Fair enough, continue to idolise a past it out of touch old american rocker who has never played Glasto before and doesnt understand it, quite quite obviously.

His crowd was far smaller than it looked on the telly, sub 50K I'd guess and as I say, from the chap who viewed everything else at the festival as warm up to Springsteen he was massively disappointed and there wasnt a single good thing to be said about his performance around our camp fire on the night.

Thats just from people who were there at it live though and not viewing it from the unreachable vistas and perspectives of the BBC film crew mind you so I'm sure you know better.

I thought he rocked as good as anyone ive seen so far, (still hammering sky+) Both The Boss and Neil Young proved these old timers still have it and younger musicians can learn a lot from them.

I loved all his set, I dont think he was as good as he has been in the past but he is 60 in a few months and did a 2.5 hour set - He was still top drawer though.

From what I saw (and at Hyde Park) he only played 2 "new" songs - Outlaw Pete and working on a dream.

He was NEVER going to play Born in the USA... he just doesn't play it live.

Both the Hype Park and Glasto sets had similar themes including getting the crowd to choose some of the songs. If you read any interview or attend any Bruce gig its standard practice for the crowd to come armed with songs on card and for him to choose songs at random. Like at Hyde Park, at the request of a crowd member, he played Rosalita which I understand hasn't been played live since 1985.

I dont think Bruce was there to make new fans. The guy has been going since the 70's and is the 6th most powerful celebrity in the world, check his earnings:

So many people told me to go and see Springsteen becuase he puts on such a good show, has so much energy etc. I did trek across to the Pyramid stage but left after the first song to go and enjoy some of Glastonbury's more surreal sights.

I'm glad I did as the next morning you could hear the surrounding tents discussing their disapproval. General consensus seemed to be that the couple of hits that he did play were ok but it just went on for too long. Even the American guy we were with was not impressed!

Are you lot seeing the latest Springsteen Setlists? he has been doing some of his most popular albums in their entirety and playing lots of rareities

Would kill for him to do a show in the UK, some of these will no doubt go down as classics.
