Looking for a great metal/rock amp and never found it??
Discussion
I sold a Mesa Boogie F100 2x12 combo recently and as with most Boogie,Marshall amps i've had i've never found that loose, fat, great palm muting effect, ballsy sound i've always looked for.One amp has always been rattling away at the back of my mind and i've never got around to getting,or far less finding one,an Eddie Van Halen 5150 2x12 Combo. What an absolutely stunning Heavy metal rock amp it is,im absolutely blown away by this thing!!Its just so musical, every tiny difference in angle of the pick gives a different sound, palm muting sounds are just that solid, big loose springy sound that i've always been looking for,and all this was before i realised i was only plugged into the 'low gain' channel!Give one a try if you've been looking for a fantastic rock amp for years and always, like me spent thousands and always felt disappointed. This thing only cost me £450 which i felt was an absolute steal.I think it's an early one too,i can't stop playing it lol.

Or to put it another way: The 5150 is what Machinehead used on Burn My Eyes. bennyboysvuk said:
I've not tried any Peaveys since I was burnt by the awful distorted sound of the Renown 400, but I love the way you've described the sound of the 5150. Maybe I should give it a go.
I've described it like that as i just can't believe the gulf between this and an amp that cost twice as much, the F100 Boogie.Usually amps are a very personal thing but i can genuinely say if anyone cranks one of these up and is disappointed, there's definetly something wrong with them!Even just gently turning the dials the sounds just get better,i've never known an amp to be so sensitive and push out all the little changes the dials make.Buy one godamn it!Edited to add there's one just appeared on Ebay!
