Absolutely love 'em, there isn't a day that goes by without one of their albums getting a spin on the tt. In fact I've got Katie Lied playing right now.
"Five names that I can barely stand to hear
including yours and mine
and one more chimp who isn't here"
from "Bad sneakers" lets start a Dan favorite lyrics thread, the more enigmatic the better. Have you had a look on here? http://www.steelydandictionary.com/

big time fan here, the staple music of choice for me.
Have all tracks from donald and walter!
"No static at all!"
Great to hear that there are others on here that appreciate the music for all the right reasons, evrything else sounds inferior in almost everyway.
Also that dictionary is great.

Long time fan here.
You know where the name comes from right?
Have you tired an album called Zazu by Rosie Vela - which is basically a Steely Dan album with a female lead singer.
And for a lyric choice:
The cuervo gold
The fine columbian
Make tonight a wonderful thing
Cheers for the info. You know where the name comes from right?

I used to love Magic Smile by Rosie Vela, is that from Zazu?
The name was from Naked Lunch wasn't it?

and in rsponse to the SD lovefest, I find them technically proficent, but not that engaging.
They are a bit 'Hi-Fi show' rather than music to love.
The Rosie Vela record is quite nice though.
I expect you can get some of thier albums on tape cassette in Oxfam and the other charity shops.

I absolutely love Steely Dan.I bought "Katy Lied" sight unseen/unheard after reading a review as a teenager in "Hi Fi News and Record Review" magazine (35p)! Used all my pocket money (£2.49). Sorry to be missing them on the Left Bank Holiday dates.Too many evocative lyrics to quote for fear of missing a better one...in fact I can't think of a bad one! Cheers.

The best crossover rock/jazz band ever. Period.
Anybody that thinks they are lightweight should submit a musical analysis of the track MAXINE.
(send on a postcard - it's studied on many Jazz courses worldwide, including Berkeley)
...and if you read tab - it's as good as you'll find to play, and a perfect introducton to the 'I thought I understood harmony, but now I'm fked' school

All well and good if you still own a cassette player.
