Early 90's radio!

Out of the blue, the local pub DJ in a major explosion of free thought played this

Tracy Jacks- Blur.
It started off a wave of nostalgia of the britpop era and before.
Flicking through youtube reveals loads of almost forgotten tracks that were played every day on the radio, and seem to have been removed from playlists.
So lets run through a few!

Up until 2005 I was DJ'ing in clubs and pubs several times a week.
I would regularly dig out stuff like this to drop into a set. Basically it was what differentiated the venues I was working at from every other venue on the high street - and ended up getting the venue a reputation for good and eclectic music.
Since hanging up my headphones, my experience of the nightlife scene in cities is very limited (much prefer a night in with Mrs Meeja and the telly, with the kids safely tucked up in their beds) but on occasions I have been out (couple of stag weekends, lads' nights out etc) I have found that the playlists that many DJs in "high street" venues are seriously limited, and it makes me itch to go and sort their music collections out!

Around the same time as the Ozrics - probably thinking mid-eighties now - was a band called Ring of Roses. Don't think they ever released a single, but toured a lot. Do you remember them? I thought they were awesome but lost all the tapes I made of their gigs in a relationship split many years ago. Would love to get my hands on some of their material again and have taken to pouncing on anyone who may have been around at the same time.
We should start a Historical music appreciation society.
Most people "of a certain age" will know a lot of those songs quite well, enough to sing along to, but there are so many i haven't heard for over 10 years easy.
Even when we start getting 90's theme bars, they'll only be playing 50-100 of the most famous stuff, again and again.

Already happening - before I retired from Djing, some city centre venues were running a few "90s" nights - but the music selected by the DJs was so limited, and repetition of tracks seemedto be the order of the night. So much good stuff missed!
