Not just any old music, but music which suits the moment perfectly.

Got thinking about this earlier today, as I was ambling down some of Shropshire's finest B-roads in the Range Rover, windows down, sun shining in a virtually cloudless sky. The music of the moment? Elgar's Pomp & Circumstance/Land of Hope & Glory. Just felt very 'appropriate'.

Anyone else experienced anything like this?

In the mid 80'S was cresting a hill in Yorkshire to discover the most amazing vista whilst intro to "Everybody wants to rule the world" was playing on the in car cassette...perfect timing just like on't telly.

I find King Crimson's Red album to be great to drive to, along with Hemispheres by Rush.

Well. My all time favourite driving tune (when on a stroppy drive) is Kiteless by Underworld (hence my PH nick).

But I do remember tooling around the minor, sun dappled roads of Cornwall near Helston in 2001 in my Astra 2.2SRi, with Stardust's "Music Sounds Better With You" turned up to 11. That was good. Really, really good.

Cresting the top of the plateau on Thunderbolts Way (classic, but unknown, Australian driving road) with the mist descending mid afternoon in winter, at a time of great personal change in my life.

Untitle #8 from Sigur Ros's () came on, and just as this huge mist shrouded valley appeared through a dense forest the thmping driving drums came on.

Still sends a shiver down my spine when I hear it, just thinking back to that time.

Approaching long queue of traffic onto a 2-lane slip with lights, traffic is all in 1 lane, lines change to amber, I drive past 30-odd cars onto the slip road, crossing the white line just as they go amber again (short cycle, hence the queue).

It wasn't on the stereo at the time, but if I'd heard The Shamen saying "naughty, naughty, very naughty" it'd have been ace.

Bobming down the back roads to Minehead in w 15 seater van after 9 hours of driving. Slayer - Reign in Blood was the only thing that kept me going and never has a tune rung so well with me!
