Reggae - Reccomend me some
Discussion
Evening all.
A few of my flatmares at uni used to listen to reggae sometimes, and I used to hear the odd track I liked, but on the whole I wasn't too fussed by it.
Anyway, I've just been listening to "Welcome to Jamrock" by Damian Marley and am really enjoying it. Does anyone have any "if you like that you'll like..." reccomendations for me?
Thanks

Welcome To Jamrock is a great album. The problem is that I wouldn't really call it reggae, there are multiple influences on the record expecially hip-hop and modern R&B. As such it makes it hard to recommend anything like it as it's a unique sound.
There is tons of good reggae out there, from Sly and Robbie to Lee "Scratch" Perry. Personally I would start with some compilations, and see which artists you like from those, as the genre has generally been about songs rather than albums (in the early days at least) this is the easiest way to find out what you like.

Get onto Amazon and search for Damian Marley. Look at the reviews and below that will be suggestions of "people who bought this album also bought..."
As Huey says, there is a wide range to select from; I'm a fan of Jacob Miller, Leroy Gibbon and Burning Spear (amongst others) but you may like Maxi Priest and some of Gregory Isaac's later stuff.

As mentioned above, Matisyahu is worth a listen, i like a few of his songs.
Other favourites-
Toots & The Maytals - Pressure Drop
Barrington Levy - Here I Come
Chezidek - Call Pon Dem
Chuck Fenda - All About Da Weed
Harry J Allstars - The Liquidator (I first heard that on Grand Theft Auto London, then on an advert on tv for heart problems, then played at Chelsea games)
If you like hip-hop influenced kinda stuff then try Elephant Man or Beenie Man
