Talking about "real feel" digital piano here. Not your average keyboard.

My wife has been playing for years and then stopped for various reasons and sold her old upright piano.

We are laking space therefore I was considering things like this http://uk.yamaha.com/en/products/musical_instrumen... but this particular model retails at over £3k !

there's that http://uk.yamaha.com/en/products/musical_instrumen... but the whole range is pig ugly, they do however come at £6-700 which is more reasonable.

I am ready to pay up to £1.5k but as a non musician, don't really know where to start. I appreciate that she'll have to try it before we buy but I would like to make it a surprise until we get to the shop.

what are the brands to look for out there?
I live in the Midlands, any good address to have a browse / chat at?

Thanks for your help.

Hello there,

Mrs H is a classical pianist, she recommends Yamaha first & Roland after that. I see one of the pianos you have chosen has an integrated stand, stick with that as some of the box type ones which come with a separate stand (like the R01) tend to rock when you play them.

Yamaha Clavinova are, in her opinion, about the best in digital pianos. They have the best weight & feel, the sounds are very realistic & you have the added bonus of being able to choose from hundreds of instrument voices. Prices start at around 1k & there are a few different models to choose from to take you up to your 1.5k spending mark.

Not from your neck of the woods I'm afraid, so I can't recommend any good shops for you.

HTH.

A friend was shopping for one a couple of month ago with the same budget. She tried a whole load out and found the Roland HP207 to be the best for her tastes. I've had a go and it sounds great, but I'm no pianist. Superbly put together though.

ETA: The link says that satin black is not available in Europe, but she bought that finish from Windows in Newcastle.

The new Roland V-Piano is getting very good reviews - may be worth checking out...

What they said. biggrin

I only have "cheap" Korg but it does the trick considering the space. One day I'll have a grand piano in my music room but until I can afford a 10 bedroom mansion to myself...

Thanks for al the replies. Last one: how do you rate Classenti pianos. I have seen e couple of reviews and they seem to fare quite well.
