Hiya,

I'm looking for some inspiration!

Essentially, I work from home. And we have noisy neighbours who trundle home in the middle of the day and play loud music because, of course, they're the only people on the planet. Which is a right PITA when you're trying to concentrate. Anybody'd think being an idle slob on benefits was preferable to earning a living! But I digress.

So anyway, normally I put on my iPod and listen to something nice to drown out the chav rabble.

But now I'm bored! I'm in the mood to expand my collection of classical music, but I don't know where to start really. So can anyone recommend something "nice" that's suitable to work to? My preferences are Baroque-y, choral, piano and orchestral.

So any suggestions? Anything and everything considered! Buying some new music will be cheaper than renting an office... wink

Thanks in advance. beer

Yngwie Malmsteen is a metal guitarist who bases his music on classical music, definitely worth a listen.

You must have a computer, so why not try some internet radio stations or Spotify?

Pandora usedto be good, but it is shut off in the UK.

Hi Sian

I'm a big Baroque nut - though I listen whilst I drive, not work!

I'm particularly partial to Handel - some fine Concerti Grossi

Here is part of number 7 http://www.stevecarter.com/HandelConcertiGrossiNum...

You get more "music" from a drum kit than most of Malmsteens stuff, IMHO.

Stick Classic FM on, or Radio 3. When you hear something you like, download stuff from them. 'swot I do.

hehe - James you are a genius mate !

(not knocking YM btw - saw him live years ago at the Playhouse in Edinburgh. Good fun, in a kind of crazy amusing way)

try 'A Throw of Dice' by Nitin Sawhney & the London Symphony Orchestra for something a little bit different

Palestrina? Allegri? Elgar? Vaughan Williams?

Or for a more modern bent, how about some of the more "classical" filmscores: The Piano, Thin Red Line, Gladiator etc.

Don't tempt me. I'm already pricing up a patio. wink

Thanks for all the tips. I'm not much into random radio, so I probably won't follow that idea up. I'll try out some of the recommendations on here, though. Ta. smile

You could try the same tune that G. Brown hears while at work:

What about something like Last fm.

Where you type in an artist or track and all the music from then on is similar.

Not perfect, but it is what I usually use.
