Really depepends on the line-up, though. Might try and get day tickets for the acts I wanna see.

Given they're only announcing who's playing a few hours before tickets go on sale, probably not.

I'm one of these few remaining souls in this country that works for a living and I don't have the time/opportunity to:-
- check their website every 10 minutes to see who is playing when they finally release it;
- talk to wife/friends to see who else might want to go;
- join in the mad telephone/e-mail throng to see who can get tickets...

...all within those few hours early one morning!

Am I the only one who decides whether to go to a festival AFTER they've said who's playing?!?

I went last year as a bit of a spur of the moment thing!

My mate got talked in to going by his mates that go to loads of festivals. He ended up buying 4 tickets, then had a few complications with who he was going with, so I got offered one. Had a look at the line-up, decided there were a few bands I wanted to see, so decided to go.

I know a load of people there last year were saying they had already bought tickets for next year's event. Fair enough, I guess they like the whole camping experience and stuff. Having camped last year, it's definitely more about the music for me hehe.

Same principle applies though - I don't get home until gone 6pm on a good night, so that won't leave me much time to look, think, talk to others and then join the throng.

What's wrong with letting people know the bands well in advance, like they used to? Or do they want to hype it up and get 'festival-goers' rather than 'music fans' going to these things?

I got my ticket last year. I will be there, but only because the atmosphere is amazing and my mate hooks me up with £1 a pints from the bars!

i feel sorry for those who bought their tickets ages ago, its the risk you take not knowing who the line up will be when you hand over the cash but this year its dire...

Kings of Leon, Radiohead and Ian Brown in 3 days is a terrible lineup?

saw Ian Brown support the manics and he was shocking, spent more time hurling abuse at the people dressed in fether boas than singing. after thirty minutes of his dire solo stuff (dolphins were monkeys ffs!) he will resort to the stone roses back catalouge....

Kings of Leon, headliners? seriously? wow, they must be short of real bands.... they have how many really big headline-a-festival-worthy songs?? three, maybe four at a push... certainly not enough for a 90 minute long set...

Radiohead are ok, have enough good songs to put on a show but they might end up playing some of the wierd stuff form the Kid A era....

and dont get me started on the support!... wink

Yes compared to last year.

As mentioned above - Ian Brown is a support act for the Manics - they played last year and were not even a headline act and didn't make the main stage.

Kings of Leon - again good but hardly comparable to Metallica or even Rage Against the Machine or Killers from last year.

Radiohead - yeah fair enough i'll accept they are big enough to headline - granted not my cup of tea - but the only big act from the whole weekend in my view.

There is the odd good band on but generally its toilet...!

Arctic Monkeys, yawn... Kings of Leon, even bigger yawn, where did they come from - dross! Radiohead could be good but it depends if you get 'greatest hits' Radiohead or 'avant garde' Radiohead. The former would be good at a festival, the latter would be awful. The rest of the bill is just very average...

Still bea good weekend for all those with tickets, just maybe not as good as other line ups.

Its not the worst line up i have seen at reading, but i agree they could have done a lot better, but i prefer the tents with the smaller less known bands and of course i just very very drunk for 4 days without the OH or the kid. so happy dayshippy

Still baffled by comments about Kings of Leon - prob biggest band in the world at the moment - big enough to headline Glastonbury = big enough to headline Leeds/Reading. Prefer to hear them than wait for a tired effort from someone like Metallica...
