I can't believe you guys are impressed by that. A twelve year old with enough time on their hands could do that, it's a terrible performance otherwise.

No dynamics at all, pathetic.

NB: Music isn't a competition.

Sorry, but that is just stupid. At least try and appreciate the skill involved

There is only a modicum of skill in such a performance, I reiterate that all that is necessary is woodsheding that one piece to get it to that level. Aside from speed, there is nothing admirable about that performance.

If I ever feel the need to see a fat boy playing a guitar on his own I watch this.

maybe i am missing the point, but to me it seems like the whole point of that performance was the speed! i think to be able to consistently pick out 5 beats per second must take an aweful lot of skill!

Those are impressive electric guitar renditions/adaptations of classical pieces.

That Flight of the Bumblebee is a musical abortion.

I'm sorry, but you're wrong. It takes a degree of dedication and patience, but not skill and certainly not musicality.

Anyone who thinks there is value in it simply by virtue of speed is simply not musical.

oh i agree that that is not musical, but it was done simply to try and beat a guiness world record. i doubt that is a good basis for creating good music. but still having said that i still think there has to be skill involved in playing that fast. yes ofcourse the majority for him is dedication and patience, but i doubt that 99% of good guitar players could play that fast without mistakes even if they practiced as much as he did simply because there is a high level of underlying skill involved.

all of this is purely my opinion and i dont even play any instruments but that is how i see it.

It takes skill to play a musical instrument, but to suggest that it's an impossible feat to match that tempo is silly. There are hundreds, probably thousands of players in the world who play that quickly or could with a little practice execute that piece at 230. That's not the true measure of skill on the guitar. Creativity, passion and originality should be praised, this sort of self aggrandizing musical masturbation should be ignored and condemned.

I appreciate the skill and technique and whatnot.

But, ultimately, it's just noise.

And Flight of the Bumblebee aint the greatest composition in the world. If he could play - for example - Bach's BWV #1001 at 320bpm, then that would impress.

In the meantime, I'll keep listening to Jeff Beck. Or SRV. Or Jimmy Page ca. 1975. Or Clapton. Or Vai. Or Martin Taylor. To name but a few.

err... nobody is saying it sounds nice!

For Airbag to suggest that the performance only contains a modicum of skill is off the scale wrong.

If it just takes a 'modicum', let's see Airbag's rendition... please? wink Should only take a few hours to master.

I just sent a link to 'probably' the best guitarist in the UK with the message title 'You're rubbish you'. He'll get it for what it is. He can play 20 times better than this bloke, but as was stated - Jaysus, that's fking quick.
