Just wondering, those of you who were into your clubs / music around the early - mid 90's (iirc) when there was PROPER speed garage, 2 step, not this current ste 4x4 bassline they try to call speed garage.

Those of you that were, prior to the commercial success of this music, do any of you have any of it on CD or mp3?

I have lost all of my old casette packs, so can't convert them, and all I seem to find again and again are bloody commercial songs or current 4x4 bassline!

examples of what i'm looking for :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52-VTlfYYao&pla...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xn_p8dVivoY&fea...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7B_5i8NQMQ&fea...

Now I understand that this music isn't going to be to everyones tastes, much like bassline isn't to mine - but if that's the case, then don't listen or post!

If any of you could help me locate any more of these old songs, which I can't find anywhere bar the few on youtube I've posted - then I would be very very very greatful!

Thanks

Is any of what you're looking for on iTunes or any of the other digital download stores? I find that because there's no pressing, packaging and distribution cost in the digital domain that it becomes viable for all sorts of 'minority' interest and older and/or 'unfashionable' music to be catered for, so people can sell a track through iTunes even if they only think they'll sell one or two copies, unlike selling in physical formats where you have to make sure you have hundreds, maybe thousands, of sales lined up just to cover your costs. I was surprised by some of the stuff I found on iTunes.

Got boxes of this stuff from my DJ days on vinyl. Haven't got anything on CD though.

If your struggling for 'top tunes' though i should be able to dig some names out for you later.thumbup

Try this site www.slicknfresh.co.uk

Mostly new stuff but there are some mixes of the proper stuff on there too.

This is definetly worth a listen

Westy-Pre-Lit, the first couple are spot on, the last couple are more UK Garage than speed garage, and were from a bit later on than I was looking for.

Would i be right in saying your after more of the '4 to the floor' and '2 step' Garage, rather than what i would call 'real' Speed Garage which had a heavier driving bass-line, which derived from House.

Example of what I would class as Speed Garage

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nN247VkxaE4

UK Garage can come in so many different forms it's why i loved playing it.biggrin Any idiot can stick on a Trance/Drum and Bass track and mix it, 2 step garage is a whole different ball game.yes

And just to be a predantic sod that i am biggrinbiggrinbiggrin the last few are well over 10 years old on white label.

And just for your enjoyment TUUUUUNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEEE. thumbup

Guilty secret - I love garage.

Hold On - Colours
Oh Boy - Fabulous Baker Boys - takes a while to get going but boy does it sound good when it does.
Lovebug - Ramsey and Fen
Just Gets Better - TJR

I've gone all misty eyed with nostalgia....

FFS i'm beginning to hate this thread lol. Just Spent all night looking for old tunes.hehe

Nah wasn't me lol. He does seem to have a bit of a button fetish without actually doing anything hehe

4 to the floor stuff is more of a smoother faster bouncy along and 2 step is more choppy if that makes sense.

Will try to find a few tunes that you can put side by side to tell the difference.

Almost forgot:

For albums, try amazon for any of the early Pure Silk or Pure Garage albums - some filler but pretty good if memory serves. For earlier than that (1996) try 'Locked on Vol 2' and 'Locked on Vol 3'

Listen to this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rUenkswRZ8

The 1st tunes the guy is playing is what we would call 4 to the floor. The last few are more 2 step.

Saying that, Garage can be so diverse it can all just run into one and be quite difficult to tell the differnce lol.
