Yeah your right, they barely made a name for themselves as a band, being so mediocre!

One of the most over-rated bands of all time IMO. I really, really don't like Bono. I wish someone would just take his sunglasses and shove them down his throat.

Only beat to that honour by the beatles.

To their credit though, they are marginally less irritating than Cold Play.

I was listening to the simon mayo show on r5 today and they had mark kermode on doing a bit on the oscars. Mayo then mentioned that next week U2 will be in the studio at the same time as kermode. Kermode got quite excited as he seemingly really really dislikes U2, should be a good show!

Its quite hard to explain how much I cant stad U2 and bonio on particular, his hypocrisy makes me sick and his songs do too. What is that new one all about? "Put on your boots"? What? ps off and stop advertising your song on tv, your supposed to be the worlds biggest band? worried your fans dont know you have a new song out?

The Joshua Tree was the only one I ever listened to but I loved it, funnily enough I never wanted to listen to any more of theirs, I think it may have been a let down.
I like Running to Stand still

I quite like some of their older songs, but I really can't stand the latest one.

Take his sunglasses and stick them down his throat? Erm, no

Stick them up his arse, and shut the little tt up for a while.

I cannot stand the little hypocrite, i really cant.

Or the music.

I'm with Batty on this. Fabulous band - cracking songs - not all of them though. The good stuff tends to be outstanding and the bad stuff utter drivel with not much in the way of middle ground.

Understand the views on Mr Hewson, but you have a choice - the singer or the person.

They stopped being good in 1984 after the release of The Unforgettable Fire. The Joshua Tree was the very first indication of Bono sticking his head up his own arse.

I find I'm perfectly capable of completely filtering out or ignoring Bono the Conscience of the World - his extra-musical activities just don't register with me at all. I therefore enjoy the (mostly) cracking music.

Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby are classic albums and in their day they were one of the best live bands in the world (still pretty good by todays standards)

The latest album isn't that bad either.

I think I have the same problem with U2's stuff as I have with Radiohead - they were okay for me up until they started repeatedly being lauded as the Best Band Ever. Most of what they've done in the last decade has sounded a bit phoned-in, "yeah, so what, we're already the Best Band Ever" to me.

With Or Without You, in a car with a really good sound system, late at night on a clear motorway, though... atmospheric don't even begin to describe it.

Ive got some of their remix stuff in the car at the moment - very good
The live version of "i threw a brick though a window" which follows on with "a day without me" is properly brilliant

But as said above about radiohead when the artists start to believe the hype surrounding them, thats when i lose interest

I agree.

The new single however, is worse than utter drivel! I can't understand how they thought it would be a great idea to release such obviously weak and poor material!

Digger.

I thought the new single was poor. Then I heard the new album and understood why it was chosen. Oh dear (and I used to love U2).

Both absolutely fantastic songs but, like the comments above, I'd say after Boy, October and Under A Blood Red Sky it all went a bit wrong. War is OK I suppose.....

Yes love these albums, I guess its what I grew up with which was tops in their day, but not so keen on their latest stuff.
