As the title suggests I'm looking for a reasonable quality acoustic for a beginner. Something a little but out of the norm if possible. Not too expensive - there's a recession on wink

Any suggestions please?

Define "Expensive"....
Do you want the option to plug it in (Electro acoustic)
Are you small or large framed (A dread can be too much for a smaller person)
Cutaway or not?

If your looking for something different then an Ovation (Bowl back) or something like a Strat/Telcoustic could be worth a look

Yamaha are always good for little money, just dont buy the very bottom of the range.

Thanks for those. Unfortunately they seem to be a little out of my budget frown Is something like This too cheap to be any good?

When you get a guitar, this guuy on youtube is pretty good at teaching the basics!

it's a bit basic....if you get a crap one then it will play a huge role in discouraging you from sticking at it, £100 - £120 is a more viable budget

This one is just like an ovation (a carbon copy) and I dont know how good they are, but these guitars are extremely easy to play, strong and durable (less likely to warp and move as there is less wood)

or something like this.... the F310 is a reference for a half decent beginner acoustic...very traditional mind you

As above, I would spend £100-£120 and get a Yamaha. My brother was after one for anything up to £250 and I tried everything Andertons in Guildford had. The Yamahas were head and shoulders above the rest.

Yep, Yamaha's a good vote for a budget guitar, and I'd call anything under £300 (new) budget, but as others have mentioned you can probably do fine for 100 - 150. Yamahas tend to be easy to play, which is important when beginning. eBay of course is a whole other story price wise.

Yamaha it is then.

Best place to buy, preferably online as the local music shop is crap!

Andertons in Guildford have a good selection and you can buy everything from there online. I always go to the stop myself so I don't have first hand experience of their mail order side I'm afraid. They can't do enough for you in store and they answer emails promptly so I wouldn't hesitate to use them myself. smile

I have the Yamaha F310 acoustic. Fantastic to play, and I'm pretty sure you could set fire to it, pick the strings up from the charred remains and they'd still be miraculously in tune. Though the bridge has a slight crack in it.
