I have a couple of 6l6 valves. How do I go about testing them? Do I need to send them off or can I do it with a multimeter?

What's the problem? AFAIK the best way is to put them in the amp and tap on them for microphonics...

Well if they came out of a particular amp you should put them in and have a listen. That's what will tell you if they're ok- your ears. On the other hand if you have the amp they came out of it probably means they came out for a reason, so that can't be the case.

You're going to have to find a local electronics wizz TBH. Someone with a machine they can plug the valve into to check it. You could send them to Watford Valves although I can't imagine that any seller of valves will say anything other than "they're fked!".
