Audio Engineer looking for work....

I thought about posting in the jobs section but thought I'd get more of a response here.

I graduated from university in 2007 with a BSc in Music Tech and Audio Systems Design (mainly studio based) and since then have been working sporadically as a freelance live sound engineer for a local PA company and also at the Guildhall in Preston as a casual.
Works very quiet for me at the moment and I'm averaging 1 or 2 shows a week at the theatre but I haven't had any freelance work since December, and the people who usually employ me don't have any shows booked until mid March.

I've sent my CV to most of the big names and some of the smaller ones in the live sound field with very little response.

I've noticed there are other people in the industry here, can anyone help me with any contacts they have or point me in the right direction? I'd love to do something like this abroad but don't have much of a clue how to go about it, I have no ties here so I'm willing to go pretty much anywhere for work.
