That there is some music that can be enjoyed at fairly low volume but there is some music, often in direct constrast to the instruments that created it, that has to be at roof raising volume to be fully enjoyed?

Odd.

LFO sounds st at 1

however, play it at 11 with 4 18" subs and 2 horns, it sounds just about perfect

What prompted this was Skin and Bones by The Foo Fighters

Its acoustic, near as dammit but at normal volume it just tinkers along, quite merrily and inoffensively.

At 11 however, 4 or so minutes of stirring, melodramatic genius!

Winehouse's Back to Black is another.

It is to do with the way the brain processes sounds.

It is not understood fully, but louder seems to equate to more neurons fired and whatever is intrinsically enjoyed by listening is amplified literally by the increase in volume.

Does your amp go up to 11?

Hmm, I don't know because my stereo volume is always as high as possible. All I can say is Fleetwood Mac's The Chain sounds excellent at ful whack, although grinning like a loon when the bass solo (F1 music) kicks in, dropping a gear and flooring it in a 1.1 Fiat isn't a good look. But it makes me feel 10 years old again

My Pure DAB radio is the Planet Rock limited edition, dressed up like a Marshall amp, and the volume on that goes up to 11. hehe
