Ok simple rules really, any artists alive or dead to make up your all time fantasy band, a smattering of originality should be considered.

Drums - Gene Krupa

Bass - Tal Wilkenfeld

Guitar - Al di Meola

Keyboards - Jacques Loussier

Vocals - not necessary but maybe Emma Pask ( just for variety )

Four very talented players with hugely different jazz roots, would be interesting but I doubt they would last long.

Lead guitar and Voice - Frank Zappa
Rythmn guitar - Tom Morello
Drums - Chad Wackerman
Bass - Paul Powell
Sax - Candy Dulfer

Needed to make Frank the voice because I wanted a sax in the band smile

If you want a band that might actually gel I think it would look a fair bit different!

Hmmm.

Eric Clapton - guitar
Greg Phillinganes - keyboards
Nathan East - Bass
Phil Collins - drums

Ah, that'll be Eric's late 80's tour line-up then. smile

I've gone for a combination of great musicians I think might work as an interesting funk rock group, rather than who I think is necessarily the very best musician in each category.
