Is anybody else as excited as me about the new Terminator film?
I know the last one was crap, in fact, I didn't really like the second one either, but judging from the trailers, this one looks amazing.
He may be an angry, foul mouthed dick at times, but if Christian Bale makes this film work, that will be two failing cinematic legends he has breathed life back into. Obviously it's not all about him, but he seems to be getting the lead role in a lot of films most famous actors would steer well clear off and even making them succesful.
Anyone have any comments or opinons (its PH, so of course) about the upcoming film.

There are two trailers on Youtube, if you have yet to see them.

I'm quite looking forward to this.

As you say the last one was pretty cr*p, mainly because for most of the time it seemed a tired parody of T2

To show how special T3 was, I can hardly remember it.

I think the only significant bit about T3 is that Arnie's chest is CG'd as he does not want anyone to see his heart bypass scars.

I've heard rumours it will be a PG-13 (or a 12A over here). If it is, then let's face it the film will be dreadful

Ummm Dark knight and Batman Begins were both 12A and they were pretty dark and violent. Times change, film age ratings aren't what they used to be. No doubt, the first terminator, an 18, would now be a 15 or maybe a 12A wih the sex scene taken out.

Wikipedia said:
The film will be released in North America on May 22, 2009 in conventional theaters as well as in IMAX, and it could be rated PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association of America, unlike the previous R-rated films. The producers cited the desire to broaden the series to a new audience and the modern leniency of violence in PG-13 films (such as Live Free or Die Hard), but they stated they would not force the rating. McG explained, "We want to make the best film possible. We just don’t care about the rating. We don’t aim for the rating and we’ve been given the freedom by the head of the studio to just make the best picture possible. That’s very, very freeing. We’re just going to make the movie."

God, why do people always freak out when I say that?

The best bit of that whole movie... the minigun out of the window, thats it.

The first one was really dark, scary and exactly what the terminator should of been throughout the whole movie series, not the stupid, upbeat, daytime, 'I've got my own terminator' gush fest.

Terminators terminate, they do not wound or perform acts of non-violence so that younger kids can watch the film. It was disappointing to see a film company lose the plot to accomodate for a lower age rating.

Wasnt T2 an 18 rated film?

No, 15, which is the equivalent of a 12 or lower rating today. I don't think 15's are used much these days, it's either 18 or 12A for the more adult films.

ETA - T1 was an 18, T2 was a 15, T3 was a 12.

Notice the sequence there? Bit like the Batmans, started of with Tim Burtons dark versions, turned into stty, camp versions then reborn back to the darkside again. I can only hope Terminator goes the same way.

I feel exactly the same and felt slightly cheated because of it, what I also thought was a bit crap was that from the trailers you knew Arnie was a good guy, they could have made loads of suspense around the fact that there were two terminators and then you find out one is a good guy.

Seems to be a common denominator in the two franchise rebirths you mention...

FWIW, 15 is the most common BBFC film rating, massively outnumbering 18 ratings.

Yup, it was far too "caring nineties" for me. Although it was still a memorable film, just not as good as it should have been.

I rather liked 3. Had its faults (shoehorning arnie in and having the same basic premise as 2 being the main one), but the ending and general background story was good.

Yeah tell me about it. T2 had the potential to be so much more although I know many people who prefer the second one, more action orientated, which is what they want. I suppose it was a sign of the times, with TV and film violence being 'put to the wall' over promoting and glorifying people and children to kill, rape, steal, murder, blah blah blah. Films had to compromise to avoid extensive editing.

All change now though, thank God. Film, TV and Computer game violence is regulated but mostly free to be produced uncompromised (mostly i.e. Manhunt). Hopefully this film should combine the dark, intense plot of the first one, with the heavy action of the second. Should be a quality film.

I liked T3. The car chase with the huge crane is excellent.

I bought the 'Taken: Extended Harder Cut' DVD, which has been rated 18 rather than the 15 version I watched at the cinema ... The only difference I can see in both films is Brian forces two nails into a bad guy's legs and clamps on some jump leads - Really not worthy of the new 18 certification confused

Thats probably true for the whole of cinema history, but of the last 2/3 years, I'm sure there have been loads more 12A's than anything else, maybe because it's a nice safe rating. Of course, I could be completely wrong biggrin

As everyones said, i think this film is gonna be awesome, and mainly due to the involvement of the Batman writers, and Christian Bale. He just seems to make roles gritty, when every other actor would try to inject humour, or just be cheesy, he seems to pull it off with his dark mood.

Loved the 1st 2 films, the 3rd was alright entertainment but was not a real Terminator movie, this one is gonna bring the original franchise back to its former glory.

watched the 1st film the other night, never realised how much of a Thriller is was, brilliant film.

Well Christian Bale is pretty good so hopefully he will lift the film.
