Sadly his best years were when I was still a nipper but been watching some YouTube vids of him and he seemed a lot different from other artists, unique in a way. Watched his Live Aid performances with Queen, how awesome was that

Is it also true that he publcly admitted he had aids the day before he died?

I think he let everyone know a long time before he died...just googled and it appears you are right and he didn't reveal it....sorry

Back in the days when entertainers had talent, and weren't just pretty boys chosen by the record label.

Albums sold by the bucket load.
Stadiums sold out...

How times have changed - a legend!

He didn't mind playing the back man from time to time either, allegedly.

Was an amazing showman and incredible sound. His recordings will live forever.
If you get the chance, see Gary Mullen live. He's amazing.

Truly outstanding. His stage presence was phenomenal. He overshadowed absolutely everybody on that day.

i was never the biggest Queen fan but I remember feeling a real sense of sadness when his death was announced. I also remeber exactly whereI was when I heard the announcement on the radio.

I remember his death well even though i was only Young (11).

The general public did not know he was going to die. He had for a long time though looked very ill indeed.

I dust out the CD's every so often, play at full blast and its amazing!

If I could live my life again, being there that day would be one of the few changes.
That performance is iconic and how many remember him.

On a related note - will Brian May ever change his image?

Look how gaunt he is in that video...scary

I thought this video summed him up, even though it was one of his solo singles

Incredible talent.

One of our engineers had worked with Queen loads and said that he was a true gent, very generous and a lovely bloke. In the studio he was godlike. Would be able to record incredibly complex harmonies etc... in single takes.

A lesser known fact about him is that he was of Indian ancestry. I saw some pictures of him when he was young and he did look distinctly South Asian. Pictures of his family showed his Mum and sister in Indian dress.

big fan of queen a freddie, Not as keen to the over played hits like 'we will rock you' but songs like 'show must go on' & 'who want to live forever' are great.

Also quite liked the last album they made.

I get the impression that they all knew what was about to happen whilst making the Innuendo album, given some of the songs on there. Not only the track above, but also "The show must go on".

Big loss in my opinion, and Queen should have stopped performing as Queen except for tribute reasons. It just isn't Queen without Freddie! (Good though Paul Rogers is!)
