Discussion
Following on from the recommend a tune thread I have decided to post a thread on Boogie music. I understand that alot of people on here will think that 'boogie' is an expression that describes 70's disco, flares, disco light etc.
Well, actually it's a type of music that was around throughout the early eighties, a pre-cursor to what we call 'house music'. US labels such as Prelude, Salsoul, SAM & a few others (I cant think of at the moment) carried the boogie banner. Artists such as Leroy Burgess, Change, Inner Life made this amazing sound, a soulfull, funky, disco sound that had dark, sweaty, black clubs around South London rocking till the wee hours. As the eighties progressed Hip-Hop came into the mix, Eric-B & Rakim, Lords Of The Underground, Run DMC & many 'rare groove' tracks re-appeared, Maceo & the Macks, the Jackson Sisters, Donald Byrd were huge once again. Yes, boogie started out as a style of music but then became a way of life, a way of dressing, dancing, clubbing & socialising.
It's a style of music that was VERY South London & was also connected with the 'casual' football fashion (Sergio Tachini, Diadora, Addidas Gazelle, Lyle & Scott & Pringle) And the movement got bigger & bigger which eventually lead to national success for the likes of Maze & electro/Hip-Hop artist Afrika Bambaataa.
Does anyone on PH know what I'm talking about?
