Just got off work early to avoid the gridlock so doing a few bits remotely and popped on that free Sigur Ros CD that was in the Independent over the weekend.

It's really fking good - reminds me a little of The Polyphonic Spree, I think?

Any suggestions on what else is out there that is similar?

Not really.. I've got a couple of their albums and they are all equally good. You'll know a few tunes on most of the albums from films, adverts, music overs on TV and so on.. Isn't really anyone I can think of thats remotely similar come to think of it..

Again, I've not heard anyone similar to Sigur. There aren't many bands who create their own language for the purposes of song. smile

Well worth checking out all their albums.

() is one of the best imo. Really love the brooding dark approach. Takk has it's moments. Hell, even Hvarf/Hiem has some moments of absolute beauty

Yeah. I'm a fan.

gawd, i hate! sigur ross. at uni some guy was crazy about them and in every presentation there one really famous song he used as background music and when he was on break he would play it like one of these 5yr old chavs sat on the bus. playing some cheap house beat of their phone! so annoying tom, i dont want to hear your bloody music!

takk is still my favourite album to date. Saw them down in bournemouth a couple of months ago and it was one of those shows where it just left you speechless smile

M83 are worth a punt - a lot of his stuff is used on Top Gear. Very epic.

Saw them in Sydney and mind blowing.

Takk is my least favourite of their albums. My heart is with () personally, but all is good in it's own way. I actaully have been getting into Havarf/Heim lately.

Ding - amazing gig at Alexandra Palace! Raining and snowing indoors during Saeglopur - fantastic!

Likewise, but we left early. Massive amounts of distortion in the PA. Nail in the coffin were all the pasty looking vegans "oohing and aahing" over the use of a violin bow on an electric guitar. rolleyes

Worst gig I've ever been too - and we weren't the only ones to leave early... steady stream of people heading out the doors from the third song onwards...

I must have been standing in the sweet spot then, thought the sound was quite good.

Was at the same gig. Absolutely superb!

Johann Johannsson is quite similar for downtempo stuff. If you also like bands such as Air, I would highly recommend Honeyroot. Sound Echo Location & The Sun Will Come are fantastic albums!

You could also try www.boomkat.com

There is some strange stuff on there, but also some gems like Sigur Ros.

Hope that helps! smile

And what were you expecting? Metal heads forming a mosh pit to slam dance to Milano?
