Wasn't Freddie amazing?
Discussion
Been listening to this on youtube for a while now. Every time I listen to the start of Who Wants to Live Forever from this link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAo4DVt2y5E&feature=PlayList&p=B8E86AF24EF03A56&index=4&playnext=5&playnext_from=PL), it makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
Was anyone off PH at this concert? How was it? Wish I had been able to see the man live. Shame there's no-one around that compares to him these days.

Despite his fantastic voice and the bands fantastic ability, I was never that impressed with his performance as a frontman. He never really reacted to the crowd in the same way that many rock fromtmen did and still do. I always felt it was part of an all-too-rehearsed script that he didn't want to divert from.
Having said that I saw some mind-blowing shows from them, the best being the 'We Are The Champions' video shoot show when they came on after all the tiresome miming for the video and played a superb set!
Phil Lynott was my favourite frontman with Bon Scott a close second!

Famous Graham - do you remember it much?
I was there too, my first and only Queen Gig.The day was lovely and sunny, the show started with Belouis Some, (one of his videos crops up from time to time on MTV late at night, with lots of boobs in), unfortunately for him, one of his songs was called "target practice", and he was.
After he finished, Status Quo came on, and during their set, some lunatic managed to get on the top of the outside of the stage cover, and played air guitar, he must have been 100-150ft up!
Then Big Country, but they were a bit samey, TBH.
Queen flew in by helicopter during his set, IIRC.
The gig was the same set list as the Wembley one, but the sing-along with the crowd never seemed to end, until Freddie said "you f*ckers are good, then continued with the set.
I was about 1/4 of the way back, slightly to the left of the stage. I'll never forget looking back up the hill during Radio Gaga, watching the wave of clapping following the sound going up the hill.
Freddiecommented on the rumours of Queen splitting up, he turned his bum to the audience bent over pointed to his arse and said "these people talking about Queen splitting up are talking out of here".
I wish I'd got a T-shirt of the gig, but hey, I was there.

'77 perhaps? I saw loads of bands underground there! The Ramones were best, but they did charge an exhorbitant £4 in '79!
I saw them at Wembley, one of the first gigs I went too. INXS, the alarm and Quo supported. It was very good and one of the best gigs I have been too, but by no means the best.
Freddie was a good showman and had a very good voice; but what Queen are now has kind of spoilt the legacy for me, and I prefer not to live in the past! There are plenty of great bands around now worthy of comparison - check out Elbow on TV now, absolutely amazing!

Freddie was poor at interacting with the crowd? Hmm, well it is an opinion certainly.
I find my musical life divided into 2 parts. Before and after 13th July 1985. Specifically, these few minutes:

After the Queen gig at Live Aid, nothing quite hit the same highs again.

When Queen performed at Live Aid they were on they`re arses! That few moments relaunched Queen and Freddie! He really had the crowd in the palm of his hand, and it still make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.Ask most people what they`re memory of Live Aid was and it is that moment, like Live 8 and the mighty Floyd.
