There's a strongish rumour on certain forums that Metallica & Linkin Park will be playing Knebworth on 1st August. In the meantime, I'll have to make do with the O2 (twice).
Hopefully with LP as the headliner!! Dont give a toss about Metallica, washed up from what I can see / hear, but LP are great - the Milton Keynes gig last year was fantastic. If it goes ahead Will Jay-Z make another appearance, that would be brilliant!Twit said:

Metallica are OK, but more like a tribute band to what they were. I don't think they are that relevant any more. If you had said in 1986-89 that Metallica were playing then I would (and was) the first person to say they were brilliant, but that was 20 years ago...

Just confirmed, tickets on sale this week.....
Metallica are to headline a new festival in the grounds of Knebworth House, the stately home that has hosted some of the most famous concerts in music history.
Thirty years after Led Zepellin played to more than 200,000 people at the Hertfordshire estate, the US heavy metal band have signed up to perform this August.
They will also be following in the footsteps of Queen (1985), Oasis (1996) and Robbie Williams (2003) who have all played huge open air gigs at the 500-year home of the Lytton family.
The Knebworth festival is the British leg of a new Europe-wide rock tour called Sonisphere that is being launched this year.
US nu-metal band Linkin Park have also been confirmed, with acts including Guns N'Roses, Iron Maiden, Foo Fighters, Muse and The Stereophonics linked.
The promoters plan to offer a "broad church" of rock music on a single stage, going against the trend of festivals including Glastonbury that offer a range of entertainment on several stages.
"We're starting an entirely new brand, with one of the biggest rock bands in the world. We've seen increasing levels of complaints from fans that rock festivals are too diluted, with four or five stages going on at the same time when you can only ever watch one," Stuart Galbraith, the series producer of Sonisphere, told The Times.
"We're focusing on having 12 to 14 acts of massive quality. There's no point in going to a festival with a load of bands there, but most of them are rubbish."
Metallica have signed up to play the festival, which has received $100m of funding from O2 owner AEG, for at least three years.
The tour moves to Knebworth on the weekend of Aug 1-2, following dates in Holland, Germany, Spain, Sweden and Finland. Around 60,000 people will be able to attend each day, with weekend tickets costing £125.

Well, I saw them last Tuesday at Newcastle and I have to say they were utterly fantastic and would thoroughly recommend the show to anyone who can get tickets for their other UK dates, even if you aren't the biggest fan other their music.
When you watch a band like this putting on a show like they did you get a feel for just how un-entertaining some younger acts are live. Yes, tickets were expensive, but from my point of view they truly earned it. They performed solidly for 2 hours and looked like they were actually enjoying themselves (something I think is quiet rare when you go and watch bands as I sometimes get the feeling the performer(s) really doesn't want to be there which spoils the feel of the gig totally)
The set was fantastic, the pyrotechnics were great and the "in the round" set up really made everyone feel close up to the action. In fact, watching Mr Ulrich's face when he is playing the drums is a show in itself!
I've also now downloaded the show from Metallicalive (I paid a couple of quid extra when booking tickets to do this, although I think you can do it straight off the website if you pay and they actually have some shows from the '80's and 90's available for free) and have to say the sound quality is better than I expected.
10/10 from me!
oh... and it was loud, and not just a bit loud, I mean REALLY loud!

Couldn't agree more. I was at the O2 and they were excellent. For anyone still wavering about getting tickets, have a look at this (unusually high quality for Youtube):-

Sunday nights gig in Stockholm cancelled after James ended up in hospital following a dodgy curry.

Got tickets to see them @ Birmingham LG Arena on 25th March, supported by "The Sword" & "Machine Head", and just found out that it's a "in The Round" stage setting, so should make for an interesting concert.
Actually got x1 spare ticket at the moment, and refuse to support ebay, so face value it is! £45!

Glad you enjoyed it. I'd have loved to have been there for Bleeding Me, but we got Outlaw Torn & Overkill at the O2 last Saturday so I guess that compensates. Having seen them 4 times since last August, I really think they're unbeatable at the moment; never less than amazing, and clearly enjoying it.
