Have been playing in club/function bands for years and am starting up a band to play weddings/birthdays/parties etc and have run out of ideas for a name...any ideas would be really welcome?..The band will be an 8 piece (including brass section)and the set list will have a bias toward soul, blues and swing.fair to say that we all past the first flush of youth and you would not want to play cards or drink with the brass players!
Any ideas very gratefully accepted!

Cheers

Steve

I played in a Funk/Soul band whilst at university called Doug Deep and the Foundations. Another band in the area had a great name - Cliff Rescue and the Helicopters.

Rejected names included Ben Dover and the Dirt Track Boys, and Kneel Before Me and the Deep Throat Crusaders.

This thought process seems to work well for jazz and swing type bands. I used to play occasionally for a jazz band called The Promenade Jazz Band because that's where they used to play a lot - a club called The Promenade.

Granted the My Mates Wedding Band may not work so well (although Wedding Present seemed to work OK a few years back) - but if there's a club you all go to quite frequently it could work for you...

Hey Alfanatic ! -you might (not?) be suprised at how many "divorce parties" I have played in recent years! usually a really good night!...I can just about remember playing at friends 21st's then came the weddings -more recently the 50th's parties ..next stop retirement gig's !...fully hope to be still playing if/when I make it to the old folks home..Every geriatric ward should have it's own rock band!..if we can't remember what we are supposed to be playing we can call it Jazz!
