What bands or musicians do you just not understand?

I don't mean ste like manufactured boybands etc -- I mean established artists with a genuinely global following

I'll start this with Radiohead -

I can see that they are very talented musically -- However I just don't get the adulation / gushing reviews / godlike status? They leave me very cold and do nothing for me

I don't care if you like them --

What very popular successful bands / musicans do you just not get?

Similar band Rage Against The Machine. Never understood the huge following they have and why people love them so much. IMHO they are not very talented musicians at all.

Tom Morello isn't talented? I beg to differ, he is one of the most innovative guitarists of recent years IMHO.

U2, Elton John, Keane, Snow-Patrol, Jay-Z, Puff-Daddy/Diddy or whatever his name is, and that one that got shot? shoot
And im not anti Hip-Hop/Rap, I do love NWA, Public Enemey, Grandmaster Flash etc....music). Basically I dislike anyone who gets "big" and stops trying.sleep

Im no Radiohead fan, but can see they do try to do things a bit different. I personally think they are a Pink Floyd for young people.

see Pink Floyd are another one.....

I know I will get lynched for saying this - but they are just a teeny bit overrated aren't they??

I like the early Syd BArrett stuff
I like Animals
I like MEddle

but FFS - The Wall and Wish you were here are just overblown/ sprawling / indulgent

Yep, I kinda agree, though it is a bit hard to expect every album to be mega of any artist? Oasis did a few dodgy albums, the Beatles had too many fillers not enough killers. I doubt any band that has not split-up/died has continued to make classic after classic. But I do agree they shoud try! A lot harder! banghead

yes but what about "classic albums"

Pink Floyd's most popular are their worst IMHO

The Beatles -- I don't agree with you! although in contrast to most I think they got worse not better over time !

Oasis? nono I said big bands!

Coldplay.

Also, and this hurts me to type/admit, but the Foo Fighters. I loved their first album, but everything else sounds the same. I should like them, judging but the other bands I listen to but just don't.

Yes and Genesis, I just don't get them at all. I've never seen the appeal of the new indie scene either with the likes of Keane, Coldplay, Snow Patrol, Killers et al.

Probably opening myself up for a flaming, but The Beatles have never floated my boat. I would dearly love to "get" what others see in them, I enjoy one or two of their songs (even play them in the band), but I struggle to appreciate what others see as musical genius.

I don't get why bands that focus on a style of music that makes you want to smile and dance get less respect than those who want you to share their pain.

Couldn't agree more about Geneis - Marrillion is another one and Jethro Tull - all that Flute carry on does my head in (although some of the tunes are OK!)
