Discuss. I'm not sure I believe the rumour:
i heard there was a secret chord
that david played and it pleased the lord
but you don't really care for music, do you
well it goes like this the fourth, the fifth
the minor fall and the major lift
the baffled king composing hallelujah
hallelujah...
well your faith was strong but you needed proof
you saw her bathing on the roof
her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
she tied you to her kitchen chair
she broke your throne and she cut your hair
and from your lips she drew the hallelujah
hallelujah...
baby i've been here before
i've seen this room and i've walked this floor
i used to live alone before i knew you
i've seen your flag on the marble arch
but love is not a victory march
it's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah
hallelujah...
well there was a time when you let me know
what's really going on below
but now you never show that to me do you
but remember when i moved in you
and the holy dove was moving too
and every breath we drew was hallelujah
well, maybe there's a god above
but all i've ever learned from love
was how to shoot somebody who outdrew you
it's not a cry that you hear at night
it's not somebody who's seen the light
it's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah
hallelujah...

I believe Buckley titled the song some like Hallelujah of orgasm or something.. So he obviously thought so..
There is a big facebook thing to get his version to number 1.. So much so that its re-entered the charts Far better than the x-factor trash..
Actually, it's a Leonard Cohen song - he wrote the original 15 verses! Buckley trimmed it down and changed it a bit but his version is probably still best known. There is a big facebook thing to get his version to number 1.. Can't remember the name of the guy that did the one in shrek but it wasn't Buckley...

Rufus Wainright.Flipping fantastic version of the song. Unlike Alexandra's.
Actually, funnily enough, I was reading an evo last night - was that you in the Exige owners guide?

I would say the Buckley version is far more emotional and better than the Wainwright version.

Did you know he originally wrote 42 verses (or was it 46 ... I forget) but abandoned most of them !
I'm narked off. We've been doing this song with the band about 18 months now ... no-one's not going to believe that we haven't just copied X Factor now !
I thought it was in the region of 80 verses..I'm narked off. We've been doing this song with the band about 18 months now ... no-one's not going to believe that we haven't just copied X Factor now !
I was lucky to see Buckley at the Garage in Islington in 94 just before Grace was released. He said it was one of the first times he'd sung it live.
Amazing night. Intimate venue with very few people there. Now I read endless reports of "that night". Apparently the Rolling Stones, most music journos etc were all there :-)
Remains my most memorable concert.

Oh good I'm not the only person in the world to be utterly horrified with what they have done to Hallelujah.
I have been a JB fan for yonks Hallelujah means so much to me, it has been a companion throughout some of the most important events of my life. Getting married, having children, buying TVRs and terrible times of loss (not just running TVRs). They have trivialised it beyond belief, no offence to Alex or whatever her name is, there is no doubt that she is a great singer but it is the wrong song for X factor.
Simon Cowle you are a f@@ker of the highest order, I hope you fall off your overly high trousers.
Anyway I'm listening to Je N' en Connais Pas la Fin from live at sin-e to cheer myself up..
Right time for facebook I think!

This is great.. the melancholy of the track still manages to outwit the cheesiness of the backing singers - the geezer peeping around the column at the beginning always raises a smile though .
