Thunder. How this band never quite hit the big time I'll never know.

Never as big as they should've been IMO, (although they never could be, for me wink) but the good news is they're still going for it!

yes

an excellent band staggeringly underrated...

Rush are another, they've been going for donkeys years and have never really attained the same levels of status of other similar bands

OK. This is not a thread where posters merely list their favorite bands, so I must avoid the temptation. BUT,
Leatherwolf should have made it to Bon Jovi, stadium filling popularity IMHO, but then again it may have ruined their style and exclusivity.

Mordred were ahead of their time so perhaps deserved more.

Spain - when you hear the acoustic ballady love tripe that has reached no. 1 over the years, I always think that Spain did it so much better and deserved more 'success'

Stony Sleep - the best indie band, who could and should have filled stadiums.

and finally someone more contemporary. If it were the 70s/80s then Wolfmother would surely be trashing hotel rooms and driving Rollers into swimming pools by now?

Fat Freddys Drop
Bic Runga

Muse are one of my top three favourite bands. The thing with Muse though is that they have a fantastic sound and they haven't let commercialism pollute it. Most bands bend to commercialism and dilute their sound for the masses, Coldplay being one (Snow Patrol and Travis being the best examples by a long way!!). I salute Muse for this, but sadly it means there's just a core of people that love them and that band of people won't grow much. Besides, I don't think a pure rock band like Muse could ever be as big as a band like Coldplay or U2 that have a broader appeal.

Umm, they sold out Wembley stadium and Madison Square Garden. "Black Holes and Revelations" was number one in the UK, Australia and much of Europe and was number nine in the US Billboard 200... you can't get much bigger than that.

Exactly how big do you want them to be?

Oh yes

My contribution would be "My Vitriol". Their debut "Finelines" was epic. They followed it up with an expanded version (couple of demo & live tracks) of the same album then disappeared.

I'll definitely agree with Thunder - should have been massive

ALso FM - Great musicians, excellent tunes

Dan Reed Network - might have been better known in the US

As for Rush, I'd say that they are/were pretty big - I'd like to know how many albums they've sold - but not globally MASSIVE, so I'd agree there as well.

Good shout. Seen them a few times including last year at Firefest. They are currently working on a new album.

Hmm, I've got their album and its no better than OK (IMHO), certainly not interesting/original/catchy enough to turn them into a huge band.

The Ballistic Brothers should be bigger, far better than the same peoples X-Press 2 project.

There were also a lot more interesting Big Beat bands than just Fat Boy Slim, such as Dirty Beatniks, Dub Pistol and the Freestylers.

There's a chap called Romanthony who is quite Princelike and should be more well known

And Dave Lee's Sunburst Band makes nice catchy, summery music which with a bit of radio play could see them become a bit of a festival fave.

A Fingathing should have been a one hit wonder with Superhero Music

Have to say, I was thinking the same thing! To be able to sell out Wembley Stadium on multiple nights, headline massive Festivals such as V and Galstobury and sell millions of albums whilst not really being a top 40 singles band (and therefore not getting total radio coverage like Coldplay do) is about as big as you can get!

In the UK yes, but they are not huge in America for example and many other places in the world. They are a very popular alternative band, but haven't had nearly as much success as U2 or Coldplay as someone else said in this thread.

Mudhoney - really good grunge band. Much better than Nirvana.
