I had to replace my old Keff 104s (big box & not atractive), so got Sonus Faber,s. But sound trash. So I up,d my amp from Audiolab (power & pre) to Musical Fidelity X integral with X monoblocks. Beter but not there.

Is it still an amp problem or have I just got the wrong speakers?

Speakers i would say, big old Kef 104 is a bit of woolly old school speaker. A modern one will be very different.

Perhaps a case of too much clarity perhaps???? It's hard to recommend a replacement speaker but obviously the KEF Uni-Q or Tannoy DC 's might be better. The Audiolab amp does tend towards being mid treble bias as would the MF's. A change to a Valve design or maybe a High end integrated like the Sugden A21 or MF's own A1 might swing it back on the Sonus speakers.
