So, interior decor pressures (SWMBO) mean I need to downsize my home hi-fi for something less obtrusive than separates and Kef Q1s on stands.

I'm looking at Radius 90s each side of the chimney breast (with the Radius 360 sub hidden behind a chair) and an Arcam Solo Mini on a shelf; nice and compact, subtle styling and (individually) well reviewed.

Obviously I will arrange to have a listen at some point but, I wonder, does any of the PH massive run either (or both!) of the above and what are your opinions?

It'll be good, but not as good as proper kit obviously.

The Radius range is good enough that I got some for my parents (quite an effort, bearing that I work for a rival speaker manufacturor =)

I Do think that the Arcam may be overkill to run the Radius, but at the same time it is small and generally a nice bit of kit.

If you were after an alternative, I'd suggest small, but good standmounts might be better than 2.1 if you're a hifi buff type, however if you listen to dizee rascal et all, the setup you've mentioned will be great!

Dizee who-now?

I need a viable alternative to "Hi-Fi", but in a satellite speaker sized package (as far as that is possible). I was recommended a valve amped receiver (I forget the manufacturer; Italian) to match with the MAs, but I wonder if that was the dealer pushing a slow moving line.

Unfortunately, I cannot see a way that anything on stands will be discrete enough. Maybe it would be easier to change the wife?

Tony, that depends what the kit was! Valves can make the nices noises, but are hard to live with (bulky, hot, delicate and sometimes unreliable) - it's an option but unless it knocks you for 6, I'd avoid (and it will NOt knock you out on radius, good as they are). Try to go to a decent retailer, and check what they have - eveeryone and their dog carries radius (or the new radius hd), and there are some really gutsy small bookshelves on the market - and a lot of them are not massive but most standards.

However, there is no call ever to change the wife, I've seen what happens to hifi men when there is no woman to control them - life gets all strange for those chaps, they buy massive speakers, and install a beard. Not progress!
