I've got a 2gig Ipod nano and the original head phones are way past their best. Any recommendations for replacements that are not too expensive(£25max)?

Check out these from Sennheiser.

Great for blocking outside noise and pretty good base performance for their size. Amazon were the best price I found.

Depend's how much you compress your music smile

If you're not using lossless or high bitrate files there's no point spending big money on headphones.

I got some 30 quid sennheiser buds for my nano, which are a massive improvement on the ones that come with it, and work fine with the low bitrates I use to save space.

If I stick the Grado SR60's I use with my Hi-Fi into it, It just makes the compression too obvious.

ETA: just noticed you already said £25 max so just ignore me getmecoat
