Hello all,

This weekend i bought some B&W 601 S3 speakers from a friend for a low price due to the fact that the inner 'rocket nose' cones had splintered and one of the tweeters had been pushed in.

I have tested the speakers and they still produce very good low volume sound (much better detail than my floor standing Jamos) but if i turn them up the splintered inner cone domes vibrate which spoils the sound.

So i've got a couple of questions for those of you that have had experience with B&W speakers..
Have you ever heard of the driver's inner domes splintering before? Is it possible to buy a replacement drivers? Has anybody done this?

Any help greatly appreciated, i would love to (cost effectively) repair these speakers as i can imagine they will sound amazing.

Cheers.

dead easy - tweeter diaphram is 6 bolts and a twist.

main drive unit same 6 bolts, no twist required.

For spare parts, go to nearest bowers dealer - and fit them yourself.

I've spoken to a B&W dealer and they are saying it will cost £60 each for the main drivers and £30 for a tweeter (one of the tweeters has been pushed in)
So £150 for to have them as new basically. I'm in two minds whether to have them repaired or spend the £150 on some new bookshelves.
All of the reviews i have read on the B&Ws seriously rate them, and even 'broken' they sound superb at low levels.

Contact B&W directly, or one of the dealers and you'll get the parts required quickly and cheaply. 601's are about £200-250 new. The slightly smaller 600's are more suited for bookshelves and retail for I think £200 new.
