Dear guitar boffins...

I'm in the market for a new solid electric guitar. I currently own a pristine Fender Lone Star strat. It's a little gem, and is a very versatile piece, given it's Texas Special and Pearly gates pickups.

My playing *tries* to be just as versatile, anything from SRV blues, to Van Halen, with everything in between.

My guitar is very much an 'all rounder', in that it's capable of playing most styles, but is aimed more at the smokey blues sounds. Honestly, though, I'm not sure what to get this time. My budget is $900 (I'm in the US), I'm open to second hand stuff, too.

Not sure whether to get another more classic/orthodox style, or something aimed at the 'faster' scale, eg Ibanez JS guitars etc..

What guitar would you get for that budget? I'm lucky being in the States, I guess...

Thanks all..

Have no idea how much guitars are in the states, I've heard they are a lot cheaper than here anyway!

Personaly I think the Ibanez guitars are fantastic, I just find the neck a bit too thin and to be honest don't go anywhere near the high frets (21,22 etc.) that often so don't need all that room!

I would recommend an early Telecaster though.. Extemely versatile guitars and they look the business too, especially in Cherry Red! cloud9

Id try the ESP standard series or the new Charvel production guitars. All nice guitars for around $1000.

First reaction would be to go for something as different as possible from your strat, IE a hollowbody. But that's not the brief, so a quick trawl of Elderly turned up this G&L ASAT, which looks pretty nice.

I've just bought a 90's MIJ Ibanez Iceman and it does plenty for me. Great for rock tones or flick to both pickps and I've got an uncanny Gary Moore thing going on.

I think that you really should go to a shop and try a few different styles... for well under budget the PRS SE might fit the bill.

Have fun!!

Jackson Dinky? Maybe a Jackson PS of some sort and upgrade the pickups.

I'd get one of the double cut Les Pauls with P90s. They're extremely simple and workman-like but they make the thickest sweetest sound I've heard from any solidbody at any price. They're absolutely brilliant thumbup

That Elderly site is amazing, never seen it before.

Just found this;

What a beautiful guitar, I'd love that but it's a little on the steep side smile
