Recommend me some Jazz!

As per the title - I'm generally into bluesy stuff and as I approach my mid-30s I feel I ought to imporve my knowledge of jazz!

So what do you think will appeal - just ordered the 4cd edition of bhes brew, but would welcome any other suggestions.
