Hi All,

I know its a bit of a long shot, but out of all the drummers on here, is there anyone who has experience playing on Roland TD-12s? I have always used an acoustic set up until I moved to London a few years ago. There is no space or acoustic shielding in my flat so I was thinking of getting back into drumming with a set of TD-12's.

Any reviews / tips / feedback would be appreciated! smile

Have a squiz on youtube. Lots of instructional vids, and people showing off.

The 12 is excellent, and has great sounds built in.

I'm lucky enough to be able to play accoustic in anger, and you can't beat accoustic for feel/feedback imo.

I have used a TD-12 for a couple of years and it has been the best money I have spent on drum gear..after years of the usual practice pads/kit's the Roland is great...sturdy frame, pads tunable for stick response and tons of options to build any kit sounds you like..the whole thing is excellent quality and would recommend it for home use ...have even been tempted to gig it but can't imagine not lugging my old accoustic kit about!
Good luck with whatever you decide

Cheers

Not a TD12 user but the older TD10 + TDW1. The Roland stuff is excellent, you won't be disappointed. Response from the pads is good and there's enough variety of sounds and control of those sounds to keep you entertained for a long time. Another thing to consider is that, certainly from my experience, their stuff is reliable, very reliable so if you're going to end up gigging with it it will cope with the demands that this places on it and it won't let you down.

Do not however visit www.toontrack.com and watch the demos for Superior Drummer 2.0; that way leads to a sudden desire to spend lots of money (sample library which you can trigger from eDrums) - I wish I hadn't looked the girlfriend would still be talking to me :-)

Thanks for all your replies guys. I think a set of TD-12s is definitely on the menu. I'm going to try to p/x my acoustic set to the drum store to offset some of that 2k cost! frown I had a quick chat with them and they said that they MIGHT be able to but wouldnt be able to offer much. If you guys know of anyone who is looking for a decent bit of kit, let me know! smile

I returned to drumming last year after a 20 year break and if the V drums had
been around in the 80's, I never would have quit, simple as that.

The sound, feel and ability to play with consideration for other's sanity, ticks all
my boxes and although tucked in a corner, I still have a large kit at my disposal.

I also built my kit as I wanted and cherry picked from ebay & www.vdrums.com
so what you see above, cost me well under 1k.

Admittedly I don't have the time to play with a band these days, so cannot comment
on live work, but just check out these two guys have been able to achieve at home
albeit on the TD 20.

If these guys don't convince you, nothing will! smile
