Longshot i know, but i have tried everything and had no luck.

I used to have this song on a tape 15 to 20 years ago, and i still cannot get it out of my head. I think it was out around the time of Iron Maiden's Loneliness Of A Long Distance runner, and in many respects it was a similiar type of song - quite long and epic, high (ish) pitched vocals and some good guitar riffs/interludes. Also reminds me of Helloween and that sort of genre - quite dungeons and dragons/going to war etc etc

I do not know the title or the band, and can only recall one or two snippets of lyrics (and these may not be exact). Sorry it is not much to go on, but if any of you PH Metal crew recognise it, please let me know

'On the road again, fighting the forces of night??light??'

'............For we are the forces of light

'Rusty armour.......

Guitar Riff - da da daa, da da daa, da da da da da da daa daa, daa da da da, daa da da da, dah da da da da da da daa

I couldn't identify the actual song or band your lyrics and riff come from, but it sounds a bit like something Manowar would do?
Anyone else got any more on this?

Queensryche - Child of Fire?

8. Child Of Fire

Born into darkness in Saturn's sight
Riding the night like the wind
Ripping the heart form a world that is right
Treading the borders of sin.

Child of fire
The souls that are damned
By the pain that you bring
Send you higher

Slashing destruction, your right hand sword ringing
To the ends of the earth you will fly
Conquering masses in wonton deception
Blood red your black flag waves high

Child of fire
The souls that are damned
By the pain that you bring send you higher

Look around. Is this the end you've foreseen?
The pain? The misery in us all?
What was it that you knew?
Will we someday learn it too?
And together build another way to the morning?
Will it ever come again?
You've poisoned all our hopes we have nothing now
And what of the children?
What has this done to them?
Damn you for the pain they must feel

The last hero standing no time to turn back
He's listening, waits for your call
The black barren plains reflect hope of the same for only one waiting to
fall.

Wow - That Queensrhyce song sounds very similiar indeed, but it's not the one. Got me thinking it might be them now - certainly is in the same style

Sounds like it could be Keeper of the Seven Keys.

Sure there's some lyrics in there such as....

Put on your armour,
Ragged after fight,
la de da daaaaaaa
We leave in the light.

Something like that (from memory). 15 mins of epic twiddly, high vocals, and 80s tastic good old decent metal!

Cheers. I have Keeper Part II and its not on there, but is is of a very similiar style. I will check out some of their other earlier albums

Funny thing is, i remember the guitar riff quite well and can play it on my guitar. Maybe i need to record myself and post a sound file - may serve to jog peoples memories

Really sounds like it ought to be Helloween, but if it definitely isn't, how about someone like Rage - equally power metal-tastic and equally German. Failing that, possibly Gamma Ray, although that would place it around 1990 rather than late 80s.

Rage i am familiar with and i have all their albums and it ain't them. As you say Hornet, It really ought to be Helloween/Queensrhyche or that era (maybe even Twister Sister??), but from what i have heard of both bands and from searching their lyrics i cannot find the song.

It is now becoming a quest, and i am determined to find out who this is.

Anyone know how i can put sound files on PH? My guitar playing is quite good, and despite relying on my memory of a tape i last heard about 15 years ago, i reckon i could do a pretty good version of the riff, and that might be all it takes to jog someones memory

Cheers for all your suggestions thus far!

Trying to think of other bands from that era. The only other Helloween-a-like I can think of is Running Wild.

So very bad, yet so very good.

Happy days smile

Edit to add - Agent Steel?

All these suggestions bringing back so many memories - i loved that era smile . But what is frightening is that my mystery song could pretty much be any of them - they do all sound similiar to an extent (a good thing in my books BTW as i cannot get enough of it!)

It's not Helloween and definitely not Gamma Ray (up the Rays music)
