One that really surprised you, that wasn't the usual top make ones like the Fenders,Gibsons of the world.Only reason im asking is my last two guitars were a fender big apple strat and a Les Paul standard limited edition,i just fancy something different but just as good as these!Just to add there was a guitar i stumbled upon about 10 years ago,a Starfield altair custom. To this day the most stunning clean sound i've ever heard on a guitar,it was like glass bells ringing, great passe-by guitar, made if i remember correctly by Ibanez,or a subsidiary of them!

My 3.5 year old daughter has a Bontempi, and it's quite 'surprising'. But she's lost her pink plectrum, so she's having to play my acoustic...

I just sold my Jeff Babicz Spider acoustic guitar, it was hands down the best acoustic ive played. But im mainly a bass player and it had to go due to lack of use as did the rest of my guitars.

I've been thinking about PRS funnily enough.Only thing that worries me is that because so many are roundabout £1500-£3000 it sort of makes you think well, are the ones that are around my price range £8-900 worth buying?

My acoustic was hand made by luthiers up in Youkshire and the quality and sound is world class.

Oakwood Instruments - lovely people as well - really nice experience chatting with the pair of guys that actually made it.

Very metal music orientated, but this guitar is easily up there with my Jackson and Charvel, and at around half the price it is just amazing value for money. An excellent, well built Axe, if you are into heavy stuff smile

Hi Greg, long time since we spoke!I helped you with the Cubase Sx a while back, hows the recording going? The Peavey sounds a good guitar for the money,it's mostly rock im into so that might fit the bill.Im really looking for a ballsy rock guitar that won't be a let down after the Les Paul Standard i had.

Hello Mate. It is indeed a long time. Although not recording at the moment, it went really well a few years back when i got back into it (thanks to your help)- managed to re-record all of my back catalogue of songs. Will do some more one day, but just cannot find the time at the moment.

The Peavey is definitely ballsy, but perhaps with a speed bias rather than true out and out heaviness. They are well made and should last for ever. I would give one a go and see what you think.

I'd recommend you try one of the new Taylor Solidbody electric guitars. They're excellent. I'm quite keen to try a PRS DGT next time I'm in a guitar shop.

I've found Washburn guitars to be unexpectedly good with consistent necks and good quality OE pickups and hardware.

However, you can get Ibanez and PRS axes for silly money these days. A few years ago, I bought an Ibanez JS Special Edition with a grey bookmatched maple top, MOP binding, Floyd Rose, and EMG pickups for 400 quid SH.

My current PRS was 500 quid new.

I have a Jackson ATX (Dinky archtop) and I replaced the Jackson pickups with a Dimarzio Fred at the bridge and a Dimarzio PAF Joe at the neck and it sounds fantastic!

Nothing unusual, but I've always been impressed by the quality and tone of my Washburn WP50 (Les Paul lookalike basically).

Talking about discoveries - a bloke I knew was offered an old amp by a guy he worked with. It had been sat in the loft for years with a broken power supply and he was offered it for a tenner. Power supply replaced, it worked perfectly, and the amp? It was an original AC30. smile

Not bad for the cost of a round.

I've a similar AC30 story. In the local rag in the £30 and under for sale section there was an ad,old guitar amp for sale?I thought what the hell i'll take a look.Old guy came to the door, took me to his garage and there was something covered with an old potato sack in the corner,it was an old 60,s ac30 valve head!!!He had palyed in a band in the 60,s,gave up and it had sat there every since.I pulled it apart and polished the beejesus out of the innards,as soon as i fired it up i could smell the beer and fags of all the clubs it had been in!Brilliant for £30!Sold for £520 months later.
