WooHoo! only took 7 months to build
Yamaha Tour Custom
12",16",18",22"
Soon to add a 13" tom and a 24" kick.
All in Ocean Blue, Gotta send all my hardware and fixing away for black powder coating. But im so happy. Go and finally collect it on saturday. Can't wait. Should be a nice upgrade from my Stagg kit

I've got clear remo pins on my pearl with a Remo Emperor X on the snare. Fattened up the sound no end, though I still use Aquarian studio rings and some moongel on each drum for a tighter more controlled tone.
Would quite like to get some black skins for the non beater sound, which would look pretty sweet I think (shells are black with black hardware)

Don't know how experienced you are with drum tuning, but this is a handy video for picking up the basics.

argh!!! it finished right when i needed to know what it was going to sound like.....
do you know where the rest of this video is?
I'm after a dull thud with very little resonation/sustain....
Try Remo Pinstripes top and bottom. If that doesn't work then try adding a 'zero' ring on top or 'moon gel'. If that still isn't the sound you are after then you may as well fill the drums with expanding foam.do you know where the rest of this video is?

Another fan in the Remo corner here, but I've gone with Emperor heads on the top and Ambassadors on the bottoms. I play a Yamaha Stage Custom Fusion (8, 10, 12, 14) with a 20" kick and found the Pinstripes a little too flat for my liking. My only damping is an O-ring on the 14". On the bass drum I always used to go with a Pinstripe but someone persuaded me to give an Evans head ago (the one with the built-in control ring) and I wouldn't fit anything else now.
I'd love to see and hear what your Tour Custom looks and sounds like as I'm thinking about chopping in the Fusion for a kit with a bigger bass drum as the 20" does lack presence at times. Have you kept the original Yamaha steel snare? I ditched mine off ages ago when an Pearl Eric Singer Signature came up at a good price. One of the nicest snare sounds I've ever had with my kit.
There's a great feeling of pleasure in putting your new kit together for the first time, isn't there? What cymbals are you using?

Just picked up a birch Sonor Designer shell pack, to compliment my Sonor Delite kit. The guy who owned it had been using Aquarian II heads.I've changed these to a set of clear Remo Emperors. Massive difference, warmer, more controlled and easier to tune (excellent stick feel too). Coated Ambassadors work nice on the Delite, plus an Aquarian Superkick II.
