I've just bought their new album and I'm quite impressed...

The whole thing sounds strangely familiar - it's like a mixture of various 70s American rock bands, with a hint of our own Led Zep thrown in with the vocals. It's not really the indie-alt sound you might expect from the former(?) White Stripes front man.

Anyway, what do you think?

Anyone seen them live BTW?

I've not seen them "live", but I saw them on Jools Holland last week and they were fantastic. Will be investing in that CD I think!
Always enjoyed the great big bang/crash sound of the White Stripes anyway, so I'm surprised with myself that I wasn't on board with the Racounteurs with their first album!

I've preferred the sound of the Raconteurs to the White Stripes, a rawer/blusier (?) sound.

haven't heard any of this album - is it anything like their first?

I've only got the live album with their earlier stuff. Maybe it's due to being live, but it sounds a lot more White Stripes 'like than the new one. The current album could almost be Lynyrd Skynyrd or something - it's got quite a bluesy 70s rock sound.
