The lack of decent Rock music on local radio Grrrrrrrr!
Discussion
Is it just me who has become disruntled with Kerrang and their infinately short play list when the world is their oyster. What's more, other local radio stations don't seem to like playing Rock as opposed to R&B s**t, with Radio 1 just being up it's own ass about Rock. HEEEEEEEELLLLLP ME!
Your right about Radio 1.... all the presenters are trying to be really funny all the time, but they aint! They go on and on about st, talk about `celebs` (they are called celebs, but why are they famous?) all day, what Robbie Williams had for breakfast, and get people to call in and tell us all about how wasted they were at the weekend.... It drives me mad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And the MUSIC????
And the MUSIC????
"Rock" nowadays is spotty youths or people that want to be youthful trying to be rockers, they have a punk sound to them! Not like Maiden or the Crue!
As my Brother pointed out Maralyn Manson is not scary and is doing the type of stuff that WASP did in the 70s and 80s, nothing new at all! He has been know to even redo 80s songs of suspect sexuality or legandary songs by Depeche Mode!

Thats a good thing about the US so many different Rock orientated radio stations, the UK radio seems so up its self musically, looking down its nose at rock musicMarkh said:

I'll wager the only station in the UK which before 0700 was benefitting from A Cooper presenting a prime slab of F Zappa.
But even this suffers from a lttle too much selective safety, although it is punctuated by odd spurts of UFO, choice cuts of Lizzy and decent bouts of Rush and Deepest Purple whilst exposing one to the dread ubiquity of coffee table muso tedium via Whole Lotta Snooze and Played to Death Floyd.

piss weak bedwetter music...Scouting for Girls...
1st off, I'm going to use that phrase tonight during the first round of slipper assault on the tv during Communist Time.2nd, that particular band are a disease, nothing more: the other lot I hate, I mean pathologically rage against are those faux weeners who must surely have emerged from the school of nepotistic pop-rock mediocrity which spawned those other champions of facially repugnant chimpata, 'Supergrass,' namely 'the Kooks;' I mean even the name is desperately needy.
Their bleating, semi teen agnst wimp fest is the worst amalgam of crumby hook attempts in many years and I'd pay thousands just to witness Lemmy beat them up with Ian Anderson's codpiece.
God, I just love middle age!
Zane Lowe had a good term for Scouting For Girls: yacht rock, lol. It's this kind of insipid, boring, pathetic, whingeing ste which is pretty much lowest of the low for me. Like you just wonder if they ever don't just listen back to themselves and just say "Actually this is fking st, i'm ashamed and I can no longer face my mother." then batter themselves with their own shoe. Instead they say "I do love, she does heartbreak, I did love 'til she broke my heart..." fk me!! that's actually one of their lyrics! tts.
I just listen to www.last.fm
That way you pick the music, and it's a great way of hearing new stuff that your likely to like

Well there's always Bruce Dickinson's BBC 6 Rock show!
But that doesnt answer the question. the question is why is rock music (in the real sense) not part of the daily radio output. Well, apart from Nickleback and Foo Fighters, it just aint. Because as stated by others, the music scene (generally run by a certain type of person) has a trend thing going on - based on a look and a prescriptive sound. Put it in a funnel, blend it, sell it. It has been said; god help you if your a UK rock band (thats why they are all in Japan/Europe) - BUT - I believe things will change.
I also believe that the consumer is to blame. There are some GREAT UK rock bands out there, who are making it in a niche market. But ponder this. Why are tribute bands so big in the UK? Because alot of people want to relive the Halcyon days of Zeppelin and the 70's. Tribute bands are often filling venues while contemporary UK Rock bands have to push and struggle their way to the top with new music. So I say this: Zeppelin, Free and co were awesome bands making awesome music. But they are gone. We will only get another mainstream UK rock scene when people actually seek out and find some of these new bands, support them, buy their CD's, request radio plays etc. Or we will continue having our musical consumption dictated to us! And we can all carry on moaning forever.
Power to the people, people!
Phew.
