Its a matter of what you like. I think they are great and don't give a s**t what other people think. I hope they continue to make records for many years to come. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-YR2ETjZrY

OK It's fashionable to hate Coldplay. And Chris Martin is shagging Gwyneth Paltrow, so you've GOT to hate him
But X&Y is arguably one of the best sounding pop albums of the past 10 years. Yes really - and an absolute masterclass in modern mixing from Michael Brauer. It's just a stunning, stunning recording, and it's since become something of a reference for me in my own work.
A friend of mine has been assisting in the recording sessions at Meloco with Brian Eno in charge. I'd heard whispers of a 'change in direction'. A 'more aggressive vocal' sound...
...Have to say, though i'm a bit disappointed with this new effort. The drums are CRUSHED to death and really quite small sounding- massively inferior to that beautiful open roomy sound on the outro of 'Fix You' And, well...it's just not very good is it?
...ah well maybe it's a grower.

I do not hate them as person but I do not like their music at all.I do not know right words to say but they just are to slow and dull for me if that make enough sense. I do not hate Chris but I do not find him attractive and I know no other girls who do also.The person I do not like most with Coldplay is Johny Buckland he is such boring guitar player that he make me fall asleep.

I haven't heard the new album yet but I loved X&Y. I'm somewhat perplexed as to why people hate Coldplay so much when there are so many utterly dire acts out there that truly deserve to be hated while Coldplay produce catchy tunes with lyrics that 'get' you. As has been said, I guess it's just fashionable to hate them. It seems increasingly that music which is musical, intelligible and enjoyable is just not the done thing these days - everything has to be confrontational, angry, miserable and painful to listen to to be considered cool. Unhappiness, it would seem, is the new happiness. I'm glad my taste in music is uncool - at least that means I'm happy in the true sense!
Actually I have a story.
Sometime ago we were at a friends and they got out Pictionary (yeah, rock and roll etc). We were playing along in couples and it came to my turn to be the sketcher for the girlfriend. One of the clues was "pianist". Easy I thought, quickly drawing a piano and a stick-man sat on the piano stool. The guessing went along these lines;
"piano!"
"piano player!"
"elton john!"
"liberace!"
"oh I don't know, billy joel!?"
etc.
In short it was going nowhere and the sands of time were falling away fast. A flash of inspiration made me think of a genius but a bit embarrassing sound-a-like word. I said "I can't believe you're going to make me draw this...." and proceeded to draw a cock and balls, the idea being the word "penis" sounds like "pianist".
Suddenly, a light went on and the girlfriend exclaimed;
"Oh I've got it, i've got it! Is it Chris Martin!?"
