Hi everyone,
Last year me and my mate came up with an agreement. Me being a Heavy Metal fan and him being a Trance fan, we decided that we'd go to one of each other's respective concerts to experience each other's music tastes. So in July, he's coming with me to Twickenham to see Iron Maiden play (which I can't wait for) and this weekend i'm going with him to see Armin Van Buuren play a 6 hour set in Birmingham.
What i'm asking is what to expect from something like this? Will I enjoy it, and also, what about him? What do you reckon he'll think of a Heavy Metal concert?

You'll probably find that a good band/artist with an enthusiastic crowd usually makes for a good gig regardless of the genre of music.

6 hours? that is LOOOONG. especially if you potentially won;t like it - and I find trance repetitive and boring so that would kill me

Ditto, I have trouble listening to 5 minutes of the stuff, you can usually get 100 repetitions of it in that time...

Well im quite a metal fan myself (most 80's/90's stuff, Metallica etc.) but I do also quite like a bit of Van Buuren..

I love my trance (I'm still stuck in 1998 cloud9) but I've just got System Of A Down - Toxicity, so it is possible to like both.

Now if I could work a bit on my mrs who loves Metallica, I could take her clubbing

Quite.

I do have a major liking for late 90's trance (Oakey's R1 "Essential Mix" from Cuba and his first one of Yr. 2000 are extra primo good), but I'm just as likely to switch to "Peace Sells...." by Megadeth.

Well, Saturday night was the night (and Sunday morning hehe )and I have to say...............it was awsome!
Every night out should be like it, no idiots chopping you off at the bar etc, just a bunch of really nice people there for one thing, the music. I couldn't get over how kind and helpfull everyone there was. You'd go outside for a fag and the amount of people who'd just come up to you and ask where you're from etc was really cool.
And as for the music itself, I really enjoyed it....Armin played an awsome set, proper getting the crowd going aswell.

Anyway, that's that done and dusted.....now to get my mate in the mood for a bit of Maiden!

I saw Nick Warren drop a remix of enter sandman into a set, and it went down a treat. Don't think this is the version, but here's a rough flavour.

Pete Tong sent the Miami WMC mental a few years back with a smells like teen spirit remix.

And whilst not strictly metal, the beastie boys get mixed up and lobbed in by all and sundry. Maybe they count if you think about how many zep samples they've pillaged?

That's the pills at work. Good on you for going along. Hope he says the same about Maiden!
