need mp3 to play in car
Discussion
not sure if this is the right spot for the question, but here goes:
i have a 1980 car which has the original radio.
the radio is not, and will not be "connected up"
i would like to buy two new 4" dia. door speakers and an mp3 player to play music in the car.
i do not want to see another radio (or similar), so do i need an amplifier of some description ?
i don't have a lot of room either.
i look forward to your help.

How about getting a small personal MP3 player and one of these:-

I assume your radio is FM, not just MW/LW!

I'd have thought you could get a small power amplifier fitted somewhere discrete and plug your mp3 player directly into it. Then you could just use the mp3 player's volume control to control the volume so as to avoid any additional kit. If you got a pair of speakers that fitted into the holes already there for the existing system then it wouldn't be at all obvious that any modifications had been made, which is presumably what you're aiming for. You'd just need a power switch to turn the amp off and a 3.5mm jack somewhere.

No idea I'm afraid, I'm not into car audio, except that I wouldn't go for most of the stuff from Halfords etc as they're probably catering for a slightly different market (phat beatz init).
I'd go for something by someone wellknown like Sony. Obviously it only needs to have outputs for a pair of speakers if you're just using two in the doors, but I think you'll probably find that the minimum can get is four.
As your 308 can go topless I'd tempted to get something fairly powerful, but the more powerful you buy the more heat it'll kick out and the more likely you are to accidentally deafen yourself. I'd have thought 50W per channel would be sufficient.

There are a zillion and one amps that you can use:
