Hi guys

I'm a big big fan of Zero 7 and can't recommend their work enough. Such lush instrumentations and great singers.

I have also seen them live a couple times and they are well worth seeing.

Their last album The Garden was out a while ago and I am hungry for more. Do any of you guys know if they are releasing a new album soon?

Also, do you know if they will be touring again?

Tina Dico (who sang on When It Falls) is also well worth seeing live, and tracking down her albums. In The Red is my favourite.

Sounds interesting, can you recommend a classic album or track of theirs? Heard a lot of good things about them, but can't actually think of any songs they did.

Sure thing.

They have three albums - Simple Things from 2002, When It Falls from 2004 and The Garden from 2006.

In my opinion all three albums are classics. Simple Things and When It Falls are quite similar in style, sharing a laid back approach, whilst The Garden delves into early electronica with lots of use of Moogs etc.

Have a look on Youtube for the videos for Somersault, Home, In The Waiting Line, Destiny, You're My Flame, Today.

All of their singers are excellent - Sia features on Somersault, Destiny and You're My Flame, Tina Dico features on Home, Sophie Barker features on In The Waiting Line and Jose Gonzalez features on Today.

Have a look for some of their live performances on Youtube, particularly the Jimmy Kimmel appearances.

If you're going to buy one album the IMHO go for the first. Hard to believe its 6 years old now. I keep going back to it again and again. For best results apply a long summer day, some beer and a BBQ.

All sound like superb suggestions, I may just do that.

First I'm wondering if the traffic has calmed down and if there's any light left. If the answer is yes to both I might go to the garage and listen to some lancastrian music. smile

Listen to Simple Things and you'll soon find out where just about every bit of background music for travel, cookery, gardening shows has come from over the past 6 years.

Definitely good "chill" music though - I know some found The Garden a disappointment but I thought it was as good as the others.

Sia, who sings on a number of the tracks has a solo album, Colour the Small One, out which is also worth checking out. Totally different to what you may expect and a bit of a grower.

Also if you do like Zero 7 it's also worth checking out some of Air's work, Ce Matin La from Moon Safari for example.

Zero7 peaked with Simple Things imo.

Air's Moon Safari is good, but Talkie Walkie is their best. Again, imo. wink

Zero 7 also did one of those 'Another Late Night' albums - not their own work, but rather a collection of other stuff that has influenced them in some way.

No idea what it's like - one of those albums that I picked up but have never got round to listening to ! getmecoat

I do like Zero7s Simple Things, but I'd give another vote for Air. They're not as easy listening on some tracks, but when they get it right they're spot on.

Simple Things, yes.

Can't get into anything else they released after that. Maybe because I found Cinematic Orchestra and the Sonar Kollective label.

Sia's solo album reminds me in places of the Zero 7 stuff - but isn't amazing.

Air - 'Le Soleil est pres de moi' is one of my favourite songs.

I saw them on the 2006 tour with Sia & Jose - fantastic live!

Downloaded Simple Things at the weekend. That is an amazingly chilled album! It seemed to linger somewhere between acid jazz and trip hop - a bit like the more down tempo Groove Armada tracks or Portishead. Creates a nice atmosphere in the background, but to sit down and listen to I think I'd prefer something with a little more going on perhaps.

Glad you liked it!

Be sure to get "When It Falls" and "The Garden" too.

The Garden may have that extra something you are after.
