Given the weather outside currently it seems appropriate to talk about Glastonbury, but to be honest nobody is. Admittedly, with Kaste Nash and Jay-Z amongst those confirmed on the line up I can understand the desire to bring some rotten fruit or a supersoaker along, but surely the festival will still hold some appeal? I don't know about you guys, but virtually no one I know is interested in going this year. Has everyone just got old and boring? Is it the line up? Surely it would be worth it, if only for the possibility of seeing N*E*R*D dueting with Nial Diamond...

Looks like there will be over 200K registrations by registration close.

Which is more registrants than there is tickets available.

Last year was a fiasco which means that there are less registrants this year but as the lineup remains secret until just before the festival, working on rumours as they stand now is no indication that there wont be a great lineup as there always is.

Gave up about 15 years ago when it turned into a city boys weekend away. The old glastonbury died many moons ago, line up or not!

Utter speculation, but I'd reckon there's a good chance Radiohead will be on the bill. They seem to like Glasto, it likes them and they've got the new album.
T in the Park has gone a bit retro headliner, with RATM, REM and The Verve. Wouldn't rule out Glasto going the same way, only bigger and better.
Seeing the police have been touring I could see them on the bill.

Rockness headliners are a bit guff this year, but I'm seriously tempted just because Underworld are going to be there.

That's the Chemical Brothers there last year, the laser show was simply epic. It had been a beautiful sunny day all day, then as the sun set the mist swirled up the loch like God's own smoke machine. That video must have been shot from at least a quarter of a mile from the stage and just look and listen to it!
Plus it's only £3 for a beer up there, and £4 for a venison burger or boar in a roll. £30 for the "VIP" section and you get access to bogs that aren't a human rights abuse too.

Added to that, you're in one of the most beautiful locations on God's green earth.

Spotted a Tuscan in the car park, so might be worth a drive up...
wink

The Verve are due to play at Glasto this year allegedly. They're one of the few bands on the rumoured line-up I'd actually like to see.

That said, despite the allegations of selling out, I think Glastonbury is still far closer to the old Glastonbury (where I used to go as a teenager) than any of the other major festivals. Things like V are a pale immitation and if you want to find a bunch of city dwellers breaking lose then there is no better place than Reading festival! I'd be happy checking out the various up and comming bands on the smaller stages and just soaking up a bit of the atmosphere, so the line up isn't hugely important to me, but most of the people I know seem to disagree - they want to see some big names before putting money down for a ticket.

Going back to the line up. What the hell is going on with Jay-Z, Mary J Blige and N*E*R*D? Are we going to see an influx of chavs as a result?

I prefer to watch it on TV now - but just to get the full experience I try going without a poo for the whole weekend.

I'll be going to Roskilde again this year. We had a cracking time there last summer, despite the weather. Superb line-up, nice people, well organised, great atmosphere, no chavs...

Radiohead are this year's main headline act so far, but I'm sure others will follow soon.

Latitude? Or doesn't that count as a major...

Anyway, we (myself, wife, 2 teenaged boys) thoroughly enjoyed it and probably spent as much time in the comedy, literature, and smaller stages or just chilling out on the grass people watching as we did watching the bigger bands (Arcade Fire, Jarvis Cocker, Good The Bad & The Queen, etc, etc) - a brilliant weekend and we hope to be back again this year...

Oxygen (or however it's spelt!) is supposed to be rather good too, but I was being a bit parochial! Hadn't really considered anything north of Watford Leeds.

have given up convincing most of my friends who are all married though! last year went on my own for the first time and met up with a load of older like minded people from the glasto boards and had best time ever. am going again with them this year.

as long as you embrace change ( eg everyones on a mobile ) rather than let it annoy you its better than ever

Hmmm, I might consider doing that if no one I know is up for it.

I did consider going on my own last year (without any contacts) as it's the sort of place you can easily meet people. If I was single I'd just go and find some hippy women to latch on to, but there's something ever so slightly uncomfortable about going out to meet people when you're attached, even if it's completely platonic.

if you check out the glasto boards ( link on their web site ) theres loads of people going on their own who hook up - eg theres the over 40 crowd who hook up and various others. its great to know you're camped with someone for security + to say hello in the morning / last thing but then its great to be on your own to explore during the day.

Probably quicker for you to get to Dublin by plane than a car/train to Leeds would be.
You despicable parochial SE types. rolleyes

Hehe. I grew up in the south west (relatively near Glastonbury as it happens) and my family are all from oop north, but I think a spot of the south east is rubbing off on me. I've even started talking about property lately. It'll be wine bars next. biggrin

A friend has been doing some work for Glastonbizzle this weekend...he told me tonight that they've only just had enough registrations to cover half of the available tickets.
