I'm off to see them tonight in Camden and before anything else...

shoutI have a spare ticket if anyone's interested!

Anyway, back on topic...

I think you've summed the new album up pretty well - it's not another Bleed American, but I'd say it was clsoe to Futures overall. Arguably a little more commercial than their previous stuff, but still a very good album and it instantly sounds like Jimmy Eat World.

It's only the second time I've seen them, but walking out we were next to a guy who'd seen them nine times and reckoned that was the best. It was certainly an awesome gig and better than my previous experience. The Roundhouse had great atmosphere and a good crowd and the band really seemed to be enjoying it. They didn't put a note wrong all night - it had that ellusive balance of presenting something more than simply listening to the album does, whilst not sounding ragged at any point. They played a good mixture of brand new, recent and older stuff including some relatively obscure earlier tunes that the fanatical crowd lapped-up. Anyone unsure of the current album should here it played live - on stage it works fantastically.

The only slight dissapoint was the PA quality. The instruments were mixed perfectly, but they never seemed to find the right level for the vocals that spent most of their time drowned out. To be fair, that was partly due to the crowd equalling in volume. Highlights were not surprisingly The Middle, Hear You Me and 23, but there really were no weak tracks. It was one of the best non-festival gigs I've been too and you know the stupid thing - despite a Gumtree ad and texting half my phone book I couldn't even find anyone to give the spare ticket to.
