Downloaded some Above & Beyond stuff from iTunes recently after I heard 'Good For Me' on a DJ andamo compilation late last year. Excellent stuff.
Jonathan Seal used to come out with some good mixes too, but I haven't downloaded any for a while (his website was offline for quite a wee while).

I used to despise trance but after spending a few months in the netherlands who on the whole love their trance I cant get enough of it. A lot of people believe trance is just fast music but if listened to properly you can really get into it and appreciate the ins and outs of a track.
I even remember some musical experts saying that trance has deep underoinnings of classical music and and even compared some of the composers of trance to having a similar musical awareness to famous clasical composers.

Nah, that's miles from the Isle of Burberry my friend
I like that sort of music too (currently arranging earphones so I can listen to stuff in the car) but I do normally prefer stronger vocals/darker sound as other have said
ETA: I'm off now to look up some of the stuff mentioned here

I'm with a previous poster on this subject; '98 - '01 was the best period for Trance. How I remember this, I don't know because most of the time I was listening to the stuff I was either exquisitely caned or chemically enhanced
Yet.
I still love it. My i-Pod currently has two sections: Trance & Classical, and I can see similarities between the two genres. Imagine a classical symphony. The composer uses certain sections of the orchestra in certain sections of the symphony; some parts have brass as the main driver with strings and woodwind providing a gentle background counterpoint. Other sections of the symphony will have strings providing a strong melody, whilst brass and woodwind serve up a quiet harmony.
With Trance, IMVHO, it's somewhat similar. The "composer" brings in and drops out of the tune certain loops that all add to the overall picture. Sometimes a melody will be introduced, then an appropriate harmony, then the harmony will drop back a bit, then a percussive counterpoint will come in to the mix, then......well that's how I see it anyway.
Couple of favourite Trance driving tunes for me:

Slow to start with, but builds nicely.....

Oakey's instrumental re-mix is better, but this is still good....

Armin van Buren is good, and some of his state of trance sets are sick

His albums are pretty good tho.
I believe track 7 of magik 6 is silence. Excellent choice sir.
Not too keen Tiesto's latest stuff- Beautiful Things (Andain)/Adagio for Strings (William Orbit)/ Surburban Train. Prob my faves.
Lange (esp. Drifting Away)
4 Strings- Take me away
Rank 1 (Symsonic Album- Aussie import is brilliant: Try Awakening (my fave driving tune...apex to apex floor it!...Airwave is a given)
Gabriel and Dresden
OceanLab (Above and Beyond)
On a couple of occasions...Lady asks 'what type of music do you listen to?'...I've replied 'trance'....'oh so you like 'Cascada''....Doh!
