Saw them at Carling Academy Birmingham last night, satisfied a long ambition for me to see them.

So much energy and fury and unbelievably tight playing. If anyone is due to seem them you're in for a real treat.

Utterly ballistic!

I think it's best described as "mathcore". Technically amazing, time-signature and syncopation madness.

Grab a copy of "Under The Running Boards (EP)" - it was their first release and still some of the best stuff they've done. Later stuff has gotten a bit more progressive but still just as mental and technically astounding.

Good band but if you haven't already check out American Nervosa by Botch and Screaming With The Deadguy Quintet by Deadguy to find out where Dillinger got much of their influence from. Also check out 300% Density by Candiria more jazzy but no less chaotic and technically challenging.

We Are The Romans (Botch) is one of my favourite albums. That's what got me into this type of music.

Not heard of Deadguy though, will check them out. Thanks. smile

Meant to add : what do you think of Brian Cook's new band, These Arms Are Snakes? I've only got the "...Meant To Hurt You" EP but it's pretty good stuff.

I've heard a lot about them but nothing by them, will have to check them out. There are tons of mid to late '90s bands similar to Dillinger, Botch et al. If you go here: http://metalhcalbums.blogspot.com/ there is a plethora of bands awaiting discovery, personally I'd recommend Turmoil, Bloodlet and Coalesce off the list but TBH I'm still discovering stuff I've missed from that blog! (it's best viewed using Firefox rather than Internet Explorer btw.)

ETA: Also you should definatly check out Between The Buried And Me if you haven't already, their latest album Colors is an absolute cracker!

Bought one of their albums today - the one with the triangle on the front. Must say i am a bit disappointed. They are OK, but after comments here and reading up on them i was expecting some technically complex playing and bandmanship, which IMHO it is not. Track 3 is good though smile

For sheer technical wizardry with jazz infusion, give me the masters anyday - Atheist, Cynic, and the legendary Watchtower thumbup

Ah, shame, sorry about that. Recommendations are always subjective. Have to say I can't understand how you can't be impressed with their technicality (though to be honest, Ire Works, the album you bought, finds them in a more experimental mood). They're not technical in a playing-scales-at-lightning-speed way but their songs are cleverly and deliberately arranged - try learning/playing one and you'll see.

If you were expecting Athesist and Watchtower, no wonder you were disappointed - they're very different.
